Our Signature beer. Brewed to the same recipe in both locations. A very robust Red ale made with Centennial and Cascade hops which lend a spicy finish to the beer. We have brewed more Sharkbite Red ale than any other beer on our menu.

Pours a beautiful dark brown with reddish highlights. Clear when held to sun. The head is small but dense and lasting; impressive lacing. Aroma is fairly balanced once the beer has warmed a bit; at first pour and ice cold, all I noticed was malt. Sweet grains form the base flavor while herbal hops lend dryess and a strong bitterness. Medium bodied and vigorously carbonated with moderate warming affect. This is an interesting style variation and a beer I recommend sampling should the opportunity present itself.

pours a dark amber red, with finger thick tan head. aroma to my nose was malt dominated with a small dose of hops, with the flavor of caramel & a little chocolate malt. bitter hops at first swallow, but the follow through is malt heavy as well. i was expecting more hops, especially after reading a couple reviews here, but there is still enough to bring somebalance. overall, a pretty good, but definitely not great red ale. more complex than the lighter ambers maybe, but not as big as my favorite reds or ambers. something about the malt & hop profile (or maybe the beers age) is just a touch off...has potential, though. I'll try again in the future.

Bottle courtesy of Sammy: Poured a deep amber color ale with a small foamy head with little retention and no lacing. Aroma of deep bitter hops is dominating. Taste is also dominated by some deep bitter hops with some citrus notes and a standard caramel malt taste which is kind of deceiving. Body is full with some medium carbonation. Maybe my expectation was too high based on the brewer reputation but I thought this was pretty standard.

On tap at Papago, reddish in color, ok initial head and lacing. The aroma was caramel with a hop presence. Flavor was caramel, light tea bags, floral hops, and a nice balanced hoppy finish of bitterness, although certainly not one of the hoppier ambers I've ever had, which I was expecting. Mouthfeel was light to moderate for the style. From this brewer, I expected more depth, although not a bad take on the style, just boring imo.

NorCal tasting Jan 07 - I think that by sheer nature of where it's brewed it gets a bit higher marks than it deserves. It's not bad, at all. But theres just something about this beer than makes it seem....pedestrian. A malty, caramel like nose with a touch of hops. Appearance was a deep amber with a nice head. Palate was medium bodied and round with bit of stickyness. Flavors were sweet and hoppy about mid palate and everything else just sort of dropped off. Not much of a finish to speak of either. I guess this beer is just a bit normal, which for PP is a bit below expectations. Perhaps that's not fair, but it's the truth.

Big hoppy red ale. Good hop bitterness is balanced nicely. Decent session brew.

Hung out tonight with some of my fellow Foamies (i.e. fellow Foam On The Brain homebrew club members) at The Liar's Club..., where this particular beer was the happy-hour special. And while it is true that I have traditionally avoided "Red" beers in the past, I knew that this offering from Pizza Port couldn't possibly be as lousy as so many other brewpub Reds that I've had in the past.
And I couldn't be more correct. In fact, this really has to be one of my favorite Red Ales, bar none.
Why for? Only that this had a such an even-handed balance to it, that it made for a real nice n' easy drinking draught pint (er, "pints") all night long.
Nicely complex-yet-approachable malt body -- with enough hops (Nugget? Cascade?) to keep this on the straight-and-narrow with it's West Coast compatriots. Again, quite balanced, and altogether plesant in the mouthfeel, and the overall drinkability.
Haven't had this from a bottle (nor have I ever had a reason to want to get this from a bottle)..., but fresh off the tap? A solid winner in my book.
Recommended.

Red color. Aroma is roasted malt. A medium bodied red. Malts are slightly roasted, somewhat sweet. Hops are grapefruity and a touch floral. Well balanced. Very drinkable red. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is kind of dry. Aftertaste is bitter.

This is a port staple, the only which i have been able to have both at the bar and out of the bottle. A vey robust reddish orange color to it with a minimal amount of head. The hops are killer in this one, subtle malts, with a nice kick of hops. Seems to have an aged quality to it, robust, historic, grand.

I have no idea why they pick this beer to put in 6-packs. Average red at best. Boring and not too bold. Bitter hop and malty sweet finish.
