American style Red Ale. Drake’s popular Spring seasonal. This ale is loaded with Crystal malts for a ruby red color that is balanced by an onslaught of Cascade and Chinook hops. Think of it as a dark IPA.

this is one of the better ambers out there simply for the fact it is a little more flavorful and robust in character than most. it has nice caramel maltiness, but the hops are assertive as well, finding a nice balance.

Drake’s Expedition Ale is a very nice amber ale with strong flavors of caramel malt and hops. The beer pours a darkened persimmon color with a creamy beige head. The aroma shows off a strong dose of caramel malt of a mildly roasted, somewhat fruity character. The hops are floral and fairly strong. I actually prefer the hop character of this beer to Drake’s IPA. The flavor has strong bitterness from the hops and a strong caramel sweetness from malt. There are light touches of grapes and apricots in the malt. The hops are more bitterly citric than floral on the palate. The mouthfeel is fairly round and full. The beer tastes bigger than the listed 6.5% abv, in a good way. There’s just a bit too much going on to merit a higher score.

Bottle. Poured a cloudy, dark-amber color with a nice thick off-white head. Sweet caramel, malty, and fruity aroma, similar to a Belgian Strong Ale. Tastes more like a Belgian Strong Ale too, than an amber. Very malty with hints of caramel and fruit. Piney aftertaste. Very good beer. Thanks, Stoutlover72!

Thanks to Stoutlover for this one...Drake's Expedition Ale was a real treat. I can honestly say it is a very distinct brew--something you won't find everyday. The pour on this one is nice--a deep reddish amber color. The head was nice as well. The mouthfeel on this one was good, but I think could use some improvement--just slightly thin for my tastes. The flavor here is very interesting. A great balance of roasted malts/oak with the citrus hops in the background. I like the fact that the hops don't dominate this brew as they do in so many beers that try to feature a hop taste. You get your hops alright--and they are very good--but they don't overrun the taste. A very fine product from a company that I'm eager to keep trying.

An absolute pleasure to consume. The aroma is piney and citrusy, with a touch of sweetness. Appearance is just absolutely incredible with a sunset reddish/purple color and a nice fluffy head. Mouthfeel is medium to full. Flavor is roasty, hoppy, citrusy, and malty. A lovely beer.

Medium amber color. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is malts and floral hops. A medium to full bodied amber. Malts are caramel and sweet. Hops are grapefruity, floral and a touch piney. Hoppy and bitter for an amber. Touch of oatmeal adds some chewyness to the beer. Not your typical amber, which is a good thing. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Pours with an amber-red body topped by a medium thick to thick head with a good amount of lacing. It’s sweet, malty and fruity with a slight piney hoppiness and a touch of caramel. Light to medium bodied and smooth.
