A deep amber colored beer with a small foamy textured light tan head that rises briefly above. Settles into a thin ringlet. I get an interesting nose of wood, burnt. Smokiness in the tasting. Molassess light sweetness. Light bodied and well carbonated. I think this is the best smoked ale I've had so far.

Sept 2009 - Light chestnut color with thin head. Flavor was thin with mild smokiness but mostly a sweet bandaid flavor that I found rather unappealing (as if a bandair flavor could possibly be appealing!). Thank goodness I split the bottle with my dad and only had 6 oz. I usually like Weyerbacher, but this is a loser.

A brownish copper coloured beer that had little head. The aroma is nutty malt, smoke, and a hint of coffee. The flavour is 'blah'. Some weak malt and smoke hints give way to an overly bitter finish.

I've had this 4-pack for some time now and found myself enjoying a bottle every so often. Described as an intriguing dark beer with a touch of smokiness. Heavy brown body with a lasting 1/2" head and great looking lacing. Molasses, toast and smoke on the nose. Thick and creamy, lightly sweetened and malty. Tastes of toasted bread, heavy cream and English malts. A noble hop presence provides some balance. There is an underlying smoke flavor that ties this together, it's subtle and easily noticed. Very well done.

Aroma on this big brew is immediate charcoal and freshly smoke planks of oak and wood as well as some rich and sweet molasses and toffee with some overtones of some deep chocolate as well as roasted and smoked malt with some pleasant ocassions of dried hops. Appearance is a pitch-black in color that light cannot penetrate with a wonderfully carbonated head on top that is a light-tan to brown in color and very full and remains as it sits leaving wonderful lacing on the glass that is even and sticky. Mouthfeel is extremely full-bodied and very robust with extreme burnt malty complexity as well as wonderful bitter hop balance with a palate that is heavy and full and well-rounded. Flavor is of smoked peat and burnt malts with some aged, deep mahogany and wood with some caramelization and toffee with an aftertaste that is of raw chocolate and toasted malt with a finish that is dry-hopped and earthy and so damned good. Overall, what a great beer here and by far the best Left Hand product I have had and is so complex and robust and full of complexity and is just awesome. I am definitely going to go get more bottles of this and going to add it in with my inventory and age this bad boy; highly recommended brew here!!

Bottle shared by Robert at SL. Pour was dark brown with a decent low density head of off-white-tannish type color. The aroma was meaty smoke, light roast, some bubblegum type aromas under it all. Flavor was meaty smoke but also ashy burnt roast too, some sweet dark malts like chocolate, caramel, but finishing with a firm bitterness probably more from the roast than any hops? The mouthfeel was full and airy, finishing crispily bitter. A decent brew, but nothing like a Bamburg classic. Thanks, Robert!

Had this on tap at the Mad Mex and would have never guessed this was a smoked. Lighter colored root beer appearance. Has a big thick chreamy tan head. Aroma is just good old clean and friendly beer, no hint of smoke. Initially quite bitter on the back of the throat and medicinal on the palate. Barely any detectable carbonation. Bitterness continues to build thru the session. Long bitter linger.
