This is our unfiltered American version of the classic English India Pale Ale. Brewed with 10% rye malt (hence the name) and loaded with five native-grown American hop varieties. Four are added during the boil, the fifth is "dry hopped" during fermentation. Dry hopping gives our Rye P.A. a delightful fresh hop aroma, backed by an aggressive but well-balanced hop flavor and bitterness. A true brew for the "Hop Head"

One of the best, although I agree that the quality is somewhat declined since Terrapin Brewing transferred from Athens to Maryland. This review is generally before the switch, but still a great beer.

Clear light amber, small lacing foam. Hoppy aroma and floral notes. Strong bitter taste, citrus tones. Fine beer with lasting aftertaste. (New Orleans 201505)

I'm really surprised by this beer because I don't like hoppy beer. This one is 35 IBU so maybe this is my limit on hops. It poured out a dark gold color with a white head . The aroma is grainy and mildly hoppy. The mouthfeel is barley bitter because of the quality blend. The taste has a very light sweetness mixed with the rye and hops.

Malt and rye in the nose and some sweet flowers. Pours a pale copper with so so head that provides OK lace. Good mouth, medium and a bit chewy, would prefer more carbonation. Rye predominates in the taste, with hops at the end, all good but this beer needs more complexity; needs something sweet in the middle and a little more hops for flavor, the hops are mostly bittering. Could be an interesting brew but just misses.

This was a surprisingly delicious beer. A clear golden pour with reddish hues. The aroma does contain rye, as well as caramel and floral hops. The flavour meshes very well with the sweetness definitely being drowned out by the hops.

June 2010 - On tap at Taco Mac, Atlanta. I don’t even feel like going into a big review. Bland, uninspiring and next to no rye presence. Ok for an American Pale, but a waste of time, especially at a place with 150 taps.

Purchased on my trip in Nashville. Ah yeah... beautiful Cascade hop nose... I like it already. Golden colour with an off-white creamy head, good retention and nice lace. The rye is more apparent in the taste (and off course, the hop is present as well). Crisp medium-light palate with a little dry finish that is really refreshing. A nice little twist on the American Pale Ale with the rye that is great for summer.

I rounded the flavor rating up to 8 on this one, but in all reality, I found it to be about a 7.5. I also rounded overall down to 7, in order to give a final rating of 3.7, but overall is probably more like a 7.5. I just found 3.8 too high but 3.6 too low for this one and didn't feel like adjusting the other categories. I see a lot of reviews giving this brew no love, but I don't think a rating from 2.0-3 is giving this beer justice, because I thought it was better than that. Nothing great, but I would say has to be above average?? Typical pale ale appearance of a light goldish to light orange color. Tastes of various malts, sweetness from the rye, a little citrus, and mild hops. I didn't find the rye to be overwhelming at all. Although I probably won't be buying this again with so many other and better beers out there, it was worth the try.

Probably because I was bragging a bit about the Hopsecutioner yesterday, a buddy showed up with this rye stuff. I don't even like rye whisky... anyway, it looked and smelled about average with a hint of orange in the appearance and mild citrus in the flavor... but it was very artificial tasting. The rye malt was way overpowering. Thankfully after choking one down, I had something else with which to rinse my mouth.

Clear golden pour with a white head and decent lacing. Sweet malts and hops with a touch of fruits in the aroma. Taste is clean with a slight sweet maltiness and then citrus and piney hops.

aged a year by Knightly Spirits.. pours a hazy gold tan .. . light honey and stale bread.. . very light foam. . like when you graze a nut reacting to a good play by the other team.
