Bob and Ellie Tupper (of Washington D.C.'s Brickskeller tasting fame) in conjunction with Ron Barchet and John Mallett (former Old Dominion brewmasters) designed Tuppers' Hop Pocket Ale at the Tuppers' dining room table by tasting a tableful of beers. Tuppers' Hop Pocket Ale is full-bodied and very hoppy (about 60 IBU's). It is dry hopped with whole leaf Mount Hood and Cascade hops and krausened (fermented) in the keg and bottle. This ale is designed by skilled beer drinkers for experienced beer drinkers. Tuppers' Hop Pocket Ale won a gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival in 1997. Widely available in bottles and on draught. ABV : 5.0%

I picked this beer up from Honeygo Wine & Spirits in White Marsh, MD on Thanksgiving (2011). I think the best word to describe this beer is "solid." Nothing about this beer particularly stood out. It had a nice body, nice flavor, good head retention. I'd have it again - solid beer.

Well balanced, but still more hop forward (and more flavorful) than many apa's out there. bright citrus hops in the aroma and flavor, medium bitterness, and a sturdy caramel malt backbone...maybe a hint of nut? solid pale ale.

THis was a pleasant surprise when I first had it...an outstanding pale ale that is crisp, clean, and refreshing. A clear golden pour with reddish hints and a creamy off-white head. Citrusy hops in the aroma hit you firest followed by a good chunk of caramel malts. The flavour is extremely well balanced with a sweet beginning and a bitter end and lot of flavour in between!

Nice! Pours deeeeep orange with a shallow white head. Lacing for days. Nose is citrusy and bready. Mouthfeel is a tad light for me but still solid. Good flavor quite drinkable.

Pours with a golden orange body topped by a thin to medium thick head with some lacing. It’s slightly sweet and malty with a slight underlying hop note that comes through more in the finish. Medium bodied, smooth and a touch dry.

One of my most favorite IPAs...I'm calling it an IPA, not an APA. Beautiful orange color, nice long-lasting lacing. Nice aroma of pine, citrus, and of course hops. Very good flavor, very hoppy and no bitter aftertaste. This one drinks easy. I first had this on tap in Catonsville but could not find it in six packs. I stumbled across it here in western Maryland and am enjoying it.

Pours an orangy amber with a fairly thick head. Aroma is strong and malty with a hint of saltiness. Flavor is malty, with strong hop bitterness that is unpleasant and biting rather than stimulating. It has a rather strong alcohol edge even though it is only 12 proof. Maybe I got a bottle from a bum batch; I will have to try this again.

An amber beer with no head. The aroma is very light with notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet with quite a lot of caramel, but also a good hop presence.

Nice orange copper color, with good head and lacing. Nutty aroma. Flavor was light caramel malt with some nuts and citrus hops...maybe even a little spicing. Not really rich or full bodied. Not overly bitter. Good, but not great.

Elegant bouquet of flowers and fruit, firmly delicate. Well planned hop additions help create a great aroma. Strikingly deep, rich auburn-copper color. Filmy clean white head with spotty lacing. Good body, nice bitterness. Very drinkable at a moderate pace. Highly hopped and extremely flavorful primarily flowers and citrus fruit. Tasty malt that's nutty with a light caramel sweetness. Well balanced, a nice "anytime" ale.
