Might just be my favorite amber ale. Not sure on that, but this beer is really tasty. It does not conform to the usual guidelines of an amber ale. Instead it bends and contorts the style and it’s pretty successful IMO. The aroma has various notes of light roasted malts, maple syrup/brown sugar, apricots, with a bit of plum and spices. Seemed very earthy to me. Flavor has a nice citrusy hop character, apple juice, toffee malts and a solid floral finish. The beer seemed to take me places a regular amber just doesn’t normally take you. Drakes Expedition did the same thing. Get this one if you can.

a little more puch than your average amber ale, that's for sure. I'm not sure thats better, but it's not worse. darker, hoppier, with a hint of spice. fairly aggressive. recommended.

Wow, one of the better ambers I've had. Finally, an amber with a bit of attitude in the hops department. Pours deep and murky red brown with tons of suspension. Aroma is flat, and while the head wasn't huge, what is there provides loads and loads of lacing. Mouthfeel has a nice hops bite rather than a typical watered down feel. Flavor is hoppy with a bit of dark fruit with a touch of sugar finish.

Tried after enjoying the deathly pale ale. Not as impressed. Craftsmanship is good, but its very weak in flavor. Im not a big fan of amber ales so perhaps that influenced me. Still not bad, but could be better.

Poured a nige hazy orange color with nice head and laced well. Aroma was of resinous hops. Flavor was of caramel malts and piney hops. Not sure if reaper is known for over hopping beers but this one was borderline over hopped. Solid beer.

Well, this one poured a nice orange to slight ruby color with a generous initial had. Lacing was good. The aroma was of resinous hops, somewhat pine like. Flavor was a balance of some caramel malts and definite hopping, somewhat like a DIPA. Mouthfeel was moderate. A nice beer.

Re-rateReddish amber color. Large white foamy head. Aroma is malty and spicy, touch earthy. A medium bodied amber. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are slightly spicy. Much better than the first sample. I heard that they reformulated the recipe, and it shows. This is a nice very drinkable amber. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Reddish amber color. Large head. Aroma is malty and spicy with a touch of spiciness. A medium bodied red ale. Malts are nutty and very sweet. Hops are citrusy and spicy. Kind of thin, and there is a spicy and medicinal taste that is kind of strange. It detracts from the overall taste of the beer; and it gets worse as it warms. Mouthfeel is thin. Finish is clean. Aftertaste is slightly bitter with a medicinal taste. Cant recommend, drain pour. 2.3

Poured a hazy, reddish amber color with a thin, off white head that nice light lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel, dark fruits, and floral hops. Taste of plums, caramel malt, light roast, citrus hoppiness, with a light alcohol finish.

on draft, Hollingshead Deli, Orange,CA I was surprised by this one, and pleasantly so. It pours a very deep reddish brown color. The flavor is nicely balanced between hops & malt. it’s quite tasty.

Aged 6 months. Amber pour with smallish head. Taste has a bit of a sour cherry note to it but very well balanced and 6.6%, a bit of a kick. I could see drinking a much older version of this.
