A superb porter, hearty & dark. This one is a staff favorite, made with pale, crystal, Munich, chocolate, and black malts. The darker malts give Coal its color and rich flavor. We use Target and Willamette hops to yield a very subtle hop flavor in this porter.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass. Pours a very deep dark brown with about a finger's tan head. The head is around for a few minutes before receding and leaves nice lacing. The nose is of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. The taste is more of the same, with a grassy bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Drinkability is good; if I had more than one, I would drink more.

Sampled from a variety 12 pack: Pours a deep dark brown colour with a small tan head. Aroma is instantly nutty with notes of chocolate and oak. Taste is a little thin, slightly watery and noticeable metallic in the finish. Again, either my taste is way off or i had a bad 12 pack. I have a few more in the fridge for re-rating.

A bitter type of porter but still good. A dark reddish brown colored medium bodied ale that had an off white colored head. A nice roasted malt aroma that was followed by the flavors of bitter hops and chocolate on the palate.

mmm, some nice simple roastiness ... some decent not embarrassing like naked in a dream lacing ... medium mouth for a porter ..."M-I-L-L-S Fuck Off" ... a low end-decent middle of the road $35 hooker kind of beer.. and by the way, who the hell is cole porter??

Pours a deep mahogany-bronze-black with a nice tannish head leaving lots of lacing. Good carbonation. Aromas of toasted coffee beans and malts, caramel and toffee and hops. Taste is black coffee with toffee and slightly bitter hops finish.

A nice dark beer. Pours almost black in color with a thick, dense, long lasting head. Slightly different hop note than I expect in a porter, almost a trace of fruitiness. Good rich malt flavor. Worth a try.

Very nice. Almost black pour, with creamy looking head, nice lacing. Aroma was strong roast and some milky lactic aroma. Flavor had rich roastiness (almost burnt), coffee and a strong chocolate finish. Nice full, thick mouthfeel. Good porter!

Very dark mahagony brown verging on black, but not quite there. The head is dense, light tan and lasting. The aroma is bitingly hoppy. Coal and hop bitterness come up first on the flavor and it may be a tad on the astringent side. Bitter chocolate arrives as the beer warms, along with a slight sweetness and some caramel. Charcoal and the hop bitterness linger in the background after the swallow. I actually really enjoy this one.

On tap, this is one of my favorite porters. Very dark in a glass with a great tan frothy head. Good chocalte undertones give way to its finely malted character. This beer ends up being not too sweet and not too bitter. With good carbonation, i'd recommend this to anyone who likes porters.

The aroma is of roasted malts and has robust chocolate bitter coming through as well. The appearance is jet black but a nice, crisp dark burgundy when held to the light with a nice head on top that diminishes to light tan lacing that remains and leaves wonderful tan lacing on the glass. The mouthfeel is robust and medium to full-bodied with nice malty complexity and decent balance with a round pallet that coats well and is a bit dry. The flavor is of roasted malts with some chocolate as well as much bitterness and slightly hoppy with an aftertaste that is dry and of dark chocolate and tasty with a finish that is full and pretty bitter and is robust and smooth, not bad at all. Overall, this is a quality porter with a lot of chocolate present as well as bitter but is smooth and even nutty to some extent; this is good stuff and a tasty porter.
