Anchor Porter is a unique dark brew, which was introduced by Anchor in the early 1970s. Anchor Porter, like all of Anchor Brewing Company's products, is brewed with only natural ingredients. Specially roasted dark malts are used, along with a top-fermenting yeast. The brew is hopped at a very high rate, and is naturally carbonated to produce an intensely rich flavor and thick creamy head. The rich flavor of Anchor Porter has earned this delicious and unique brew a worldwide reputation for outstanding quality.

355ml bottle into glass. Rich caramel malt nose. Deep brown/red beer. Nearly opaque with two finger tan head. Slightly zingy mouthfeel. Milk chocolate taste with fruity/sour finish. Touch of bitterness late on. Good balance, easy drinking.

Pours clear dark brown with a medium sized beige head that dissipates quickly, some light lacing. Aroma is roast, caramel, bready, bitters and chocolate. Taste is roasty, caramel, chocolate and bitter

Pours very dark with large bubbled light brown head. First aroma seems a bit fruity almost like a barelywine. Then some dark roasted malts, breadiness and chocolate malts intercede. The flavor starts off mild and then some malt sweetness and roasted malts build up toward midway with a hint of dark fruit. The taste ends with a nice roasty maltiness.

Rather unique shaped 12 oz bottle with a twist off cap.The shape of the bottle allows for a perfect pour into my clear mug. Very dark and stoutlike colors. Aroma is very nice, attractive to the beer drinking nose. Chocolate root beer? Dark tan head that is barely there except for a froth and ring. Good strong bitter porter stout flavor impact. Thick and almost syrupy on the tongue. Burned western pine flavors impact the uvula. Metalic aromas slowly infringe on the olfactories. Seems to have a higher alky content if you observe by flavor. Black coffee bitterness is apparent. Barely any carbonation. Finishes with the intent that you will not forget. A stronger porter. A little more ver busto than I expected from a gentleman’s porter. Plenty good for a west coast beer. If it was not for the bitter linger, I would say this is much like a sweet stout.

Bottle: Poured a dark black color with a medium beige color head. The aroma is coffee but sweet with some hops. The taste is sweet coffee with nice hops and twists as it warmed up. Very nice old style porter.

Pours deep dark brown almost black with a thick head that lingers. The aroma is chocolate, coffee and malt. It has a thick mouthfeel with just a slight hop bitterness. The taste is of chocolate, coffee and malt just like it smells.

Clear dark ruby, dark brown with light brown foam head. Aroma is quite strong, burned coffee, bit caramel. Taste is little caramel, dominated by bitter cold coffee. Aftertaste is lasting. (Velp 201305)

Ruddy black coffee color with a rocky tan head. Sour smokey aroma with some caramel sweetness. Flavor better than smell: 2 big notes while it's cold are charred wood up front & bitter citrus hops at the back. Caramel emerges and gets stronger over time. Wet for a porter, but fine carbonation & lacing. Great with sour cuisine.

Pours a dark brown/black with a nice sized chocolaty brown head that takes its time. Aroma is fairly tame with hints of malts, coffee and chocolate. Taste is a disappointment to say the least. Fairly dry with a metallic ting to it. Malts are present but that's about it. Even for a fairly low ABV you can taste a bit of it. I am somewhat disappointed in this brew even though I am giving it a higher rating, due to the aroma and appearance. Over rated but it is an ok beer.
