This hearty, mahogany colored ale is brewed to evoke the dark, full-bodied ales that were a favorite of dockworkers and warehousemen (hence the name "Porter") in 19th century London. It is a good bet that when Dickens' Mr. Pickwick sat down for a pint, we would have been drinking an ale much like our Robust Porter. This is a smooth and very drinkable beer, characterized by its well-balanced malt and hops, plus subtle notes of coffee and chocolate. "Full-bodied and malty with undertones of coffee and chocolate and a bright, hoppy finish, in style it's like Cary Grant's accent: the best of British and American." - The Boston Globe, November, 2005 GOLD MEDAL WINNER - Porter , 2001 Great American Beer Festival. JUDGED GRAND CHAMPION - Best Porter in the USA - 10th Annual US Beer Tasting Championship VITAL STATISTICS OG: 1064 TG: 1018 Grain Bill: pale 2-row, carastan, dark crystal, special "b," chocolate Hops: Cascade IBU's: 15, ABV: 5.7% Color/Number: Dark chocolate brown

12 oz brown bottle purchased at the Beer Store in Moon. Interesting label, black & white old time photo with a strongman holding some circus chick. Pop the lid and you get that aroma of stout or porter, you know, roasty and burned wood. I must admit, it is a little milder smelling than most stronger porters. The color is opaque dark brown or black and there is a thin ring around the inside of the glass for a head. Barely any lacing around the inside of the glass as you drink. The taste has a bitter impact almost like a Baltic or imperial porter. A little more personality than I care for in a porter. The alky content is a little up front on the flavor, not quite in your face, but getting there. If I didn’t see the % on this site, I would think it to be about 7%. The carbonation is sparse but present, could use a bit more. Upon finishing this brew I get a back of your throat medium bitterness that hangs for a few moments. This brew could take some lessons in etiquette from Yuengling’s black & tan or East End Pink Cloud. On par with Weyerbacher Black Hole Ale and JW Dundees Porter.

Pours very dark with attractive half inch tall mocha head. The aroma is roasty with burnt edges and notes of earthiness and faint molasses. The taste begins pretty smooth with notes of highly roasted malts and hints of molasses easing their way into the picture. Toward midway burnt malts surface along with a touch of chocolate and a certain dark roasted coffee bean flavor that take it to the finish. Coffee, burnt malts and mild earthiness seem to hang around into the after taste.

Thanks to PaleAleRider for this one. Pours a dark brown colour with a creamy-foamy beige head with good retention and creamy lace. Roasted malt aromas with some nice sweetness to balance things, like cacao, vanilla also liquorice and a little grassy leaf. The taste starts off with coffee, steering into the burnt malt and finishing with the mild hops. Bitterness and dryness lingers. Quite a nice robust porter.

Pours a huge frothy brownish head and has a dark brown appearance. Lots of sticky lacing remains. Good retention. Aromas of coffee, cocoa, chocolate and resin. Flavours are somewhat sweet at first but some bitterness and spice notes show up not too long after. Still with the coffee and chocolatey flavours but also some hints of dark roasted malt, toasty malts, resin and vanilla. Slight drying sensation on the palate.

12-ounce bottle at World of Beer, Key West. First New Hampshire beer. Ebony pour under a medium brown head, with some resultant high-quality lacing. Aromas of roaster malt and chocolate. Creamy mouthfeel. Bitter finish. Really good beer.

The beer pours a translucent dark brown (when held to bright light) with a creamy tan coloured cap. The aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and vanilla. The aroma is medium bodied with above average carbonation. The flavour is dark malt, coffee, and weak chocolate.

All round good beer. As the name suggests it has a robust flavour. Roasted malt, very strong black coffee, chocolate and dark fruit. Full bodied with a nice appearance and aroma. Pleased I have a few more.

Pours a dark brown/ black body with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Medium thick lace rings are left behind. Smell is of dark and burnt roasted malts, cocoa, and touch of soy sauce . Taste is much the same with cocoa, bitter coffee, and citrus hints on the finish. There is a nice balance between the roasted coffee and chocolate malts and hop bitterness. Crisp mouthfeel yet smooth going down. Overall, a nice robust and tasty porter indeeed.

This sucker is black hole that light won't penetrate. The head foams up THICK like a root beer. The aroma is almost pure malt but has a very tiny hop zing. The taste and mouthfeel is thick and smooth. I will buy more of this for sure.
