This is a retired beer that it took me sometime to obtain. The beer pours a murky golden yellow with a fluffy white head. The aroma is breadlike yeast, with some malt, and fruit spices.........and a hint of alcohol. The flavour is a cornucopia of goodness. Sweet malts, bread, and some sweet spices make up a great mouthful.

Celebrating my 800th review with this discontinued brew that has been in my cellar, waiting for a good occasion. Bring in the new year !! On the cork, 2-6 is writen and on the back of the bottle 12-12-2002. Not even open, I can see lots of sediments floating around in the bottle. Pours a hazy golden-orange colour with a average white head that is fizzy and bubbly. Surprisingly, because of its lack in creaminess, the head disappears rather quickly. Carbonation though is quite active, with tiny bubbles all over the glass. Because of this, a small ring stays around. Beautiful fruity aromas with the Belgian yeast. Plums, apples, bananas, honey, mild nuts and spices. The alcohol is nowhere to be found, not in the nose, nor in the taste. Good creamy mouthfeel and close to full-bodied. The flavours start on the sweet side and end up on the bitter one. Lots of fruits and spices, but so well blended, that it is hard to detect them easily. Some peaches, citrus, banana cake, apples and hop. I am really thankful I could taste this one and suggest you jump on it, if you see a bottle of this just sitting there in a store (just like I did... back in 2004).

BAM finally get to try this bad boy, and it was worth the wait. First of all I’ll thank BUNKYPOP for sending me this all the way from Illinois! Pours a dark gold body, with some cloudy orange properties. Head is just off-white, short lived and medium sized. In the end the head just sorta sat around the edge of the glass. Aromas are a huge blast of hops, citrus (lemon and orange), sweet malty candies, and some grassy notes too. Complex! Taste is like a hops train coming straight for your mouth, and it explodes in your mouth. HUGE HOPS, bitterness, orange peel, candied malts, grainy and grassy, and a slight boozey warmth. Finish is boozey and warming, huge bite in the mouth. Long lasting hoppy aftertaste. Suprisingly smooth and enjoyable for the alcohol content. Awesome and prime example of the style. Well done Three Floyds!

The first thing that struck me about this beer was how pale it was. It's got a huge foamy white crown, but for the style, if it didn't, it'd be a major flaw. Head has good staying power and excellent lacing. Excellent cascading and with the crystal clear body you get on the first pour makes for a beautiful picture. Clove, alcohol, spearmint, figs banana peel and a little wine on the nose. Complex, but not overwhelming given the strength. The flavor is fairly light and pretty clean with a very short finish. I get a bit of fresh cream and ripe fruit lightly spiced. The body is creamy and but not so carbonated as to have the cottony mouthfeel that I dislike. I'm surprised I don't notice the alcohol more. A very easy drinking Belgian Strong Blonde. You've got to be careful with this stuff because it goes down as easy as a much lighter golden ale. While the aroma is nice, I'd like the flavor to be a little bolder because after all, when I'm reaching for a big beer like this, my goal isn't to be able to pound back a few bottles. I want a sipping beer and this seems a little too quaffable.

Light hazy yellow color. Large head. Small than the volcanic Unibroue 10. Aroma is yeasty and very fruity, with banana, pineapple, apricot and honey noticeable. A medium bodied Belgian ale. Malty and fruity with a lot of spiciness. The fruit flavors: banana, pineapple, lemon, oranges, apricots and bubble gum are ‘balanced’ by spices like coriander, clove and rye. All these flavors are laid over a strong malt backbone. A nice triple. The 11% alcohol is evident in not only the taste, but in the nice warm feeling it leaves in your belly. Light and refreshing and surprisingly dry. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter with a noticeable alcohol bite. Another winner from Unibroue.

This beer is a work of art. Hazy yellow w/ a nice head of tiny bubbles. This really reminds of the Grand Cru that Celis made, in Austin, before Miller. Lots of fruit flavors in this one: apricot, orange, peach... It's very light on the palate, but warms you on the way down. Great Stuff

Thanks to my local packy owner Mark I was able to try this gem, came from his own private stock. (Aged two year, bottled in 2003). The aroma is very fruity and floral-like with notes of yeast along with banana, apple, and maybe plum or grapes with some alcohol aroma present. The appearance is a hazy/cloudy blonde in color with a smaller head than I expected that is bubbly and seltzer-like and white in color with nice lacing left behind when the head diminishes. The mouthfeel is full-bodied and robust and full of sweet complexity with floral and yeasty balance with a pallet that is smooth and wets the pallet nicely. The flavor is surprisingly sweet and full of fruitiness like pears, plums, and some apples with maybe some spices that turns to less fruity and more bitter in the finish followed by some hints and burn of alcohol that is rather smooth. Overall, this ale aged pretty well but sweeter than was expected but still is a very good beer; I expect it would have gotten sweeter with more aging. It is just as good as the 2004 and 2005 editions and was a pleasure to drink and experience.

Bottle – Purchase in 2003 and drank in 2004. Poured a blond brew with a huge white head with above standard retention. Nose is subtle alcohol with some malt, a bit like a mix of barley and wheat. Medium carbonation with an above average body. Taste is bit too strong on alcohol for my liking but I guess it is to be expected for those special anniversary beers. The mix of spice is great with also some fruit (apple?) and a bit of sweetness underneath it all. Overall, this is a great beer and I’ll try to get my hands on some leftover and see what it could once it is aged a bit more.
