I'm staring to think Belgium brews the best beer in the world. Pours out acloudy and very dark brown. The aroma is not real special but the mouthfeel is like mud. The taste is very complex with taste of fruit, figs ,spices and malt. My bottle was from the year 2013. And I wish I had the will power to put a bottle for a couple of year.this one is sweet enough to be a Barleywine.

Wish List beer. Finally. 2012 Vintage. Golden brown pour, bubbly white head reduced to a constant cap, lazy lacing. Rich Belgian yeast nose and flavors, sweet and boozy, light bubble gum, ripe dark fruits, very earthy hops, more Belgian yeasts. Fantastically satisfying - living up to expectations. Here's to Charles the 5th! Cheers!

2012 Vintage bottle from the LCBO. Pours a darker brown-red colour with a nice mocha cap that lasts quite long and gives out good lacing. Beautiful aromas of raisins, chocolate, roasted malts, caramel and even hints of rust. Lots of it reminds me of wine with the yeast and grapes. The taste is pretty sweet with toffee and caramel the whole way. Notes of plum, cherries, apples, cola and light nuts in the finish. The mouthfeel helps by not being to sticky or syrupy with the sugars. Quite complex, loaded with flavours / scents and pretty easy to drink for an 11% ABV. brew. Wish I would of purchased more. Hope to see it next year.

Pours a darker clouded rusty brown with a large tan cap. Moderate natural carbonation. Aroma is wonderful, caramel, roast, figs, raisin, cocoa, some musty earthyness. Flavour is very rich in sweet malts and dried fruits, so roasty-cocoa tones, vanilla, toffee...very rich and sweet. A long wet finish where some hop bite shows up to lightky balance the sweet malts. Laves a vinous like warming. Very eich complex warming brew, if it has a fault it is a bit too sweet to my tastes to drink more than one, But I will certainly share a galss of this with a friend any day.

Pours a dark semi-translucent reddish brown with a rocky cap that laced well. Aroma is yeast, raisins, caramel and bread. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with good carbonation. Flavour is over sweet and syrupy (just as the label suggests). The raisin flavour is very strong. Flavour is rounded out with caramel tones. -

Aroma and appearance are fairly typical Belgian style, brown hazy beer with fizzy head and a yeasty fruity smell. Flavor is like a raisin and date bomb in your mouth, very sweet. There is also a heat with a bit of tabacco at the end that I really like.

From Brewery Creek. Poured a body of clear, dark amber under a smallish tan head. Aroma was very nice, dark fruits and spices. Taste was fabulous, spices, yeast, dark fruit. Mouthfeel not too shabby, either.

Brown, syrupy colored beer on pour. Interesting once settled into the glass the color is more a bright mahogany. Big foamy textured tan head rises above. Some hang time. Better lacing. Light film at top to frothy film near body. Light cap and ringlet. Sweet fruity, caramel in the nose. Big hefty, syrupy body, with big carbonation feel. Nice smoothness. The fruit, sweet caramel flavors are well crafted in this one. Overall, a nice drink.

By far, my favorite beer ever. The problem with it is this: It's brewed in limited quantities and it's not cheap. Buying a case at a time is almost required, because I'm just not able to leave it alone in so that it ages. It always gets consumed, unless I have my buddy lock it up in his wine storage unit at the winebar far away from me. The taste is very complex, and needs to be served in a proper glass. Not too cold, either! I find my Riedel Cognac Snifter works excellent for this and allows the intricate lacing to really show itself off. Taste is malty and caramel and improves with age. The 2006 is drinking very well now. The '08 was a bit young, but I just couldn't resist the temptation.
