An intriguing mix of coffee, chocolate, and roasted flavors in the nose and on the palate. There is no bitterness, but sweet notes throughout to the very finish.

330 ml bottle, from Matkroken Stokka. BB date 01.2014. Black colour, large to moderate tan head. Aroma of lactose and moderately roasted malts, hints of chocolate. Smooth mouthfeel. The flavour is nice and smooth, with mild roasty notes, some lactose (but not too sweet), hints of mild coffee and chocolate. Pleasant and easy to drink. Might well buy again.

330ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a fairly small frothy tan head and has a deep dark brown appearance. Decent sticky lacing. Moderate carbonation. Aromas of roasted malt, vanilla, licorice and mild spices. Flavours are the sweet side, some notes of coffee, chocolate, lactose, brown sugar and licorice hints. Slight bitterness on the palate in the finish. Smooth and slick mouthfeel. Not bad overall.

Dark brown, nearly black pour, tight tan head, nice lacing, a touch thin. Almost scalded sweet milk intially in the nose and flavor, then quickly some toasted malts, hint of mocha, dark chocolate, hint of molasses.

Pours a dark black with a head that slowly rises from the bottom of the glass. Very noisy as well. Aroma is very sweet but it smells very much medicinal. Taste is almost idescribable, but it isn not very good. It is fairly sour and sickly sweet. At first sip it almost made me gag because of the off taste but you do kinda get used to it. This beer is one of the weird ones where it looks great but doesn't taste that good. It is drinkable but only once. I'll pass.

pours a very deep brown with minimal head not much retention or lacing. The aroma is a little bit of sweetness, but something else is really dominating scent. The taste is a nice bit of chocolatey sweetness in the front, coffee bitterness at the end with a very dry finish. Just a bit of bitterness lingering in at the end. The mouthfeel is light bodied and smooth.

Very nice easy drinking stout. Nothing particularily special. Roasty, a bit chocolate, a touch of sour and just the faintest trace of something like leather. Quite liked, easy drinking, super simple. Not really worth alot of reflection though.

Pours deep, opaque sable with a fairly thick, if not persistent, light tan head. Aroma is malty and yeasty as well as chocolaty and a little sweet. Flavor is more like an ale than a stout, mainly malty with a chocolaty undertone and nutty and coffee hints - tasty nonetheless. Texture is smooth and fairly tingly. Dang, I really like for a stout to taste like a stout.

Wanted to try this because of the whimsical label and different bottle shape. Very fizzy at it pours out of the bottle, but the head almost immediately disappears completely, leaving a flat-looking (there is the tiniest hint of carbonation) glass of blackness. I've never had a stout that was so fizzy before. Judging from the other reviewers, it looks like I have an off/bad bottle. The pour looks thick enough and black enough, but it nevertheless feels very much like greasy water. Smells a bit like coffee, and there is some coffee in the aftertaste as well. There is a striking taste of acidic sourness, like "turned" sour cherries. Maybe its the lactose sugar, but it tastes more like it was sweetened with an artificial sweetener. Overall, this really isn't pleasant.

Pours black with small, tight head. Aroma has notes of coffee and raison and a faint whisky quality. The flavor is mildly roasty and pleasant. Balanced with some hops bitterness, but a slightly sweet finish. Fairly smooth light body. An unusual example and worth a try.
