Able to grab One, Too, and Four while up in Michigan on vacation....Tres eluded me, but that's how it rolls. This is a decent stout, but was the most basic of the ones I enjoyed. Fairly standard, but put together nicely. Sweet and chocolaty with a hint of coffee an roast.

Had as part of a Michigan Beers flight at Old Chicago. Dark black in color with a small head. Aroma is dominated by coffee. Taste is also coffee and a tad bit sweet. A bit light on the alcohol if you ask me though.

Black liquid with a very small brown head. Chocolate, roast, a bit of cardboard or tin or something. I’m not sure of the age of this bottle, but it’s not really all that old. It could have had a bad cap or something, but it seems pretty close to other descriptions. A little sweet for my taste. Slightly soured roasty malt flavors. I can’t really taste any hops and the flavors suffer from the mouthfeel. Fairly flat and much too thin. It has the feel of an over-aged stout.

Been waiting awhile to pop the top on this one, so early on Christmas eve...about to get the cooking started I decided to start it off right. The beer pours out a jet black body with coffee-brown edges and nearly no head. Just an oil-slick formation of head particles clumping together. Tiny sparkling bubbles gather around the rim, but other than than it’s zippo.
The aroma has coffee notes, black strap molasses, vanilla extract and chocolate covered caramel candy. Very tame though even with all the aromas getting flung around. It really didn’t leap out of the glass as some stouts can.
Flavor has a very smooth roasted coffee/dark chocolate combo. Vanilla creeps into the flavor when it hits it’s stride, a touch of smoke, and soy sauce notes too. Seemed slightly salty somehow too, and the roasted malt bitterness goes a long way with this beer.
The coating effect on the glass is nice, although it doesn’t cling as long like some can. Smooth and supple on the mouth. Nothing harsh or over-bearing. The sweetness really seems to be held in check for a sweet stout, which was welcome. Some can really get out-of-hand with the lactose. A nice beer to start off Christmas Eve. -

Pours very dark brown with a short lived light brown head. Chocolate and coffee liqueur dominate the nose. Initial creamy semi-sweet chocolate flavor gives way to coffee and slightly smoky roasted malt. Medium body with a full mouthfeel. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but this was a pleasant surprise. Need to try again.

This pours nearly black with a very small brown head. This brew is lightly carbonated with a medium/thin body. The flavor is of lightly roasted nuts and some chocolate.

Poured an opaque black color with a small, dark tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, smoke, and some dried fruits. Taste of tons of chocolate, some smoke, light vanilla, and a dry roastiness, capped off by a touch of alcohol in the finish.

A little tinge to this beer, which is why I give it low ratings. Really big coffee flavor, and a pleasent cream after taste. I'd pass on a second bottle, but not totally bad.
