Note: Replaced in 2014 by Alley Kat Full Moon IPA We can’t promise inner peace, but our Full Moon pale ale definitely has a zen-like balance with its smooth body and light carbonation. Full Moon is a West Coast style pale ale that is both kettle hopped and dry hopped with Centennial and Cascades. The hops provide this ale with a nice citrus-like taste to balance out the caramel malts. West Coast style pale ales are from a larger category of brews called American Pale Ale (APA). The APA is a cleaner and slightly hoppier version of British Pale Ales using North American hop varieties but everything else remains the same, right down to the balance between malts and hops to the medium body. With the additional hops APA tends to produce nice fruit-like flavours while balancing out the bitterness from the hops used in the process. Thanks to Nic for bringing this back for me from Edmonton. Pours a clean darker amber colour with a frothy warm cap, great retention and thick foamy lace. Big cereal grain malt scent with hints of goat soap and hops. Medium-light mouthfeel, feeling like Perrier but without too much carbonation. Smooth cereal malt flavours with a nice light bitter hoppy finish. The grain in this one balances the grass notes in this one. Pretty easy to drink West Coast Pale Ale that still has a micro character.

I really enjoy this beer. Very refreshing. The beer pours a golden orange colour, murky, tan head. Citrusy hops waft through the air with some hints of sweet caramel malt. The flavour is chewy caramel malt, citrus hops, and a nice bitter finish.

On tap at Next Scene just off White Ave in Edmonton and confirmed with a fresh 6 pack.
Got me a deep gold / light amber beer with a large white cap with thin but total cover retention and minor sticky lacing. Nice refreshing orange and sweet grapefruit greeted me first and then they fade off a bit to some mild caramel malts and finishes with a faint spice. The aroma is not powerful by any means but that is not really an issue. I found that the hops and malts both are easily recognized in the first impression for tasting and on every sip from there on. Slight caramel and almost a biscuit flavour as well, light citrus that is mainly unsweetened grapefruit. After mid taste fades away the bitterness sweeps in quickly and takes over leaving a very lengthy bitter after taste. There are patches of time where you get good solid malts as well. Ample carbonation. I'm not convinced that this is on the thin side of the style but it is close. I've had a lot of better US and UK versions of this (Full Moon seems to be a mix of both) but for a local brew, Full Moon does not disappoint this craft beer drinking Adonis.... This is the best that Alley Kat has to offer - it is always consistent in quality, can be found on tap, sells well so there is no worry about getting old beer in the store and is THE local cure for something tasty with plenty of hops. -

A surprising gem from Alley Kat. A crystal clear brown body with a good inch tall cap floating on top. Nice roasted malt with hints of sweet caramel and a nice hop finish in the aroma, very nice. Pine, citrus, hops, sweet smooth malts yes, yes very tasty indeed. Why have I not bought this for so long? Slight breadyness coming through and mild hints of pepper. Every time I exhale I’m tasting alcohol. Very good APA, this is Alley Kat at its finest.

This is an orange coloured beer which has a very hoppy aroma. The head was white, thin, and stayed with th beer all the way down. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied, carbonation is mild, and there is a bitterness on the tongue. The flavour is hoppy, malty, and a grapefruit twist.

Bottled. Hazy deep orangeish red colour with mediumsized beige head. Aroma is flowery hops with some grass and earth. Flavour is grass, flowery and fruity hops along with some mild spicing.

poured with a gold colour that wasn't dark or light. head was white and decently thick. retained pretty good with an etched glass. scent showed good hops and citrus. flavour reflects the hoppy smell, and has a wee bit of malty goodnesses.

Bottle: Poured a deep amber color ale with a medium head with short retention. Aroma of citrus hops is quite powerful and dominant. Taste is also dominated by the citrus hops with a lingering bitterness at the end. Body is too thin (definite lack of malt) for the style and the carbonation is a bit low. Nice for the style from a Canadian brewer but kind of weak compared to US staples of the style.

Pour a dark golden color, with white head. Thick and creamy, thin stream of bubbles help with head retention. Smell of citrus, grapefruit, and hops - full refreshing aroma. The flavour is lightly toasted malts with a great balance of bitterness and hoppy burst. Great flavor, smooth, and easy to drink.
