Dumped into my glass with the realization that I have to sneak in pounding this back in 15 minutes. Super clear dark brown brew with a fizzy tan head and ample slippery lacing. A gentle swirl recreates a thick cover. The aroma is the expected bag of sweet malts. Great. Now I feel like drinking more beers. This will end drunkidly. Sweet and a bit pungent, the earthy qualities come out quickly, hints of marzipan, dull chocolate, dates, sort of toffeeish (maybe) and some sort of red fruit - probably closer to those swedish berries candy. Pretty tasty stuff - I really thought it would suck balls. A healthy amount of roasted malts, sweet caramel and toffee, an almost non existent bittness, light fruit and a bit of candy sweetness but not much. Probably some berries as well. Mild carbonation and a slight slickness is left over. Under medium bodied it seemed. A good beer indeed.

I am drooling from smelling this! Ultra dark red going dark brown with a small deep tan cap that resides forever. Excellent lacing... well, maybe not excellent but considering this is 18% it’s pretty good.. Man, Smells thick as hell! Awesome. Sweet, intense, cranberries, cocoa, plums, raisin, roast, fragrant and floral, weak pepper. I’m reviewing this pretty close to room temperature. Heavy heavy roast.. this is excellent. Damn, this tastes excellent. Tasty cranberries, alcohol, spices, plum, touch of fruit cake, flowers, a bit of heat initially, raisins, candy, Halls cough drops,.. getting sweeter as I go. Thick roast, very fruity.. I don’t quite see the 90 IBU but the bitterness is by no means silenced. Quite thick mouth feel but not overly which is surprising. Smooth, a bit of carbonation which all help leaving my mouth soft and soothed. Good bitterness, finishes oddly fruity with a spice and a light burn on occasion. I love this beer. 10 thumbs up!

Pours out a black brew with a nicely formed dark brown cap that withers away too fast down to surface cover but leaves some sticky, spotty lacing. Amazing aroma - one that is line with my favorite smells out of a glass. Sweet but soft like the fur on kittens. The chocolate is exquisite like a melted stronger milk chocolate mixed with 50% cocoa: smooth, inviting, mild and creamy. The vanilla and bourbon are as one, highlighting the sweetness and chewy character. MIld coffee floats around but never ever becomes close to dominating the character, caramel and a hint of smoke or molases - I think... something here reminds me faintly of coconut - kinda like the inside of a Mounds chocolate bar. The taste is awesome: smooth and delicate, it’s like a glass full of chocolate with more obvious (than the aroma), however mellowed, coffee flavours. The bitterness that hits mid sip builds slowly but steadily into a very lengthy finish is very nice and has a notable medicinal quality. Vanilla and bourbon reign early to mid sip fading to promote the bitterness of the thick roasty toasty malts and chocolate. I think I’m finding a hint of red berries on the nose now. Ha! The finish now is very coffee bitter flavour. Very smooth with excellent carbonation, this beer sticks to my mouth leaving an array of flavours behind to savour beyond the final mouth full. This is a wonderful brew - top of the totem pole.

Deep mahogany/ red brew, clear with a huge velvety head, decent spotty & ropy lacing. Dull chocolate on the nose, plum, raisin, soft roasty malts, meaty??, light spice. Nothing complex but it just smells good. Taste: Belgy, more meat, chocolate, spices and a good roasted malt back bone, biscuit. Smooth drinking brew, nice spices that remain soft. I like.. but not too much.

Minhas brewing.... ahhhh yes..... let us begin so we can end quicker. I smartly traded a 3yr cellared Rochefort 10 for this brew with a poor student (Todd) working at the climbing gym. I win that trade! Yeeehaaaaw! Yellow gold with ample floaties from dish rags used in filtration system, ok white cap with endless large bubbles, Ah, the smell of sweet corn stuff, warm mushy apples, odd peaches.. maybe... and a couple of other things that seem quite awful but never offend which is surprising. MMMMMMMMMM yumtacular. Actually, this is quite drinkable - just as promised from my creditable alcoholic friend. Not overly sweet, a touch of tanginess in the mouth, grain and corn and more sweetness now, a slight spice that might just be my taste buds that assumed the worst and committed suicide. Watery but not overly as there is some flavour here. Leaves my mouth dry and papery. Would I drink more than one? Not on your life... unless it was given to me or I wanted a massive University hangover. Still, it’s dirt cheap and will get the job done better than a good handful of the other garbage swills. The can design screams high end.
