A gold Lagerbeer with a hint of smokyness. Served / Sold: - All year round - Only from the bottle at the Schlenkerla Shop and some taverns and retailers. Data: Original gravity: 11.5% Alcohol: 4.3% Schlenkerla Helles is brewed with fine Bavarian aroma hops from the area around the city of Nürnberg. It's lagered in century old caves underneath the historic Schlenkerla brewery and maltings. Schlenkerla Helles is boiled in the same copper kettles and bottom fermented by the same yeast as the historic Schlenkerla Smokebeer. Its subtle smokiness without using smoke malt makes Helles Schlenkerla Lager a unique representative of the classic lager beer style Bavarian Helles.

500 ml capped bottle. Poured in the original Aecht Schlenkerla Willi becher a crystal-clear and golden yellow coloured Helles with a two fingers almost white, fine , dense and pillowy foamy head that had a no end retention and tons of micro bubbles. Soft carbonation. Great lacing. The aroma is toasted malts, a Rauch touch and herbal hops. The flavour is toasted malts, honey tones and, of course, a light to moderate Rauch feel. The mouthfeel is thin, round and smoked. A nice balance between the malts and the smoke. The texture is oily. This light bodied Helles has a dry smoked finish. A light Lager with a moderate smoked feel. Yes, this Aecht Schlenkerla Helles Lagerbier, brewed without any Rauch malt, is easy accessible for everybody daring the first attempt and the try worth. I enjoyed it.

Pours clear daffodil with a thick parchment head. Aroma delivers malty, fruity, wheat and smoky tones. Flavor presents smoky, malty, wheat, subtle citrus and hop resin. Texture features fair body and peppy fizz. Prost!

Clear dark yellow, white lasting, lacing foam head. Great aroma for this style and nice bitter taste. Some smoke there too, propbably infused by the brewing process using the same kettles as their Rauchbier. Very, very nice. (Velp 201611)

Sunshione in color. Moderately impressive head rising briefly above. Settles into a moderate sized ringlet. Not much of a smoked ale. More pale lager, with cereal grain notes and grassiness. Drinkable. But a bud comes to mind

500 ml bottle, from MENY Grønland Torg, Oslo. ABV is 4.3%. Pale yellow colour, large white head. Moderate aroma of smoked sausage. Ordinary helles flavour with a little smoke added. Moderate hops in the finish. Nice enough to drink, but did not blow my socks off.

wow - i'm surprised at the lower scores. this helles lager acheives a far more subtle smokiness than the urbock (which is world-class) and the marzen (pretty dang good too) without the use of smoke. poured at 44 degrees, the aroma took a while to open up...at forst no hint of smoke, but once it breathed the aroma and flavor were just fantastic. typical helles color, but has an everlasting fluffy white head, and is quite smooth. i'm generally not a lager lover, but this well balanced lager would be good without the delicate smokiness, and is just plain delicious with it. another that i'd get all the time if it were available in a 4 or six pack, but even at $4.50 per 500ml I'll go back to it...probably several times over the summer.

Found almost all of the Schlenkerla beers on a recent trip to oHIo - all at Belmont Party Supply in Dayton - great beer store with lots of singles available. Nearly clear golden straw honey color with little head nor lacing. Light carbonation. Aromas are of sweet malts, a touch of honey, a bit of floral and earthy hops, and a kiss of smoke. Taste is not unlike a bock, with sweet malts upfront, some honey and honeysuckle, very very light smoke and little hops bitter. Nice and easy to drink. Very glad I found it and the other Schlenkerlas.

Alright! been wanting this for a while ..pours a golden colour with a somewhat small head .. almost no lacing after a while .. first impressions, uhh, smells like a corn filled bmc, then mellows to an underlining smoke with some honey and slight burned wood ... tasty stuff, just a touch of smoke, some sweetness, a great starting out beer for the Superbowl! .. also would be a beer to give someone just getting into smoked beers..a strange but fun little brew, it needs some kind of smoked meat to make it perfect...WL cross off: originally put on 7/18/2006 ...

S5L2F2T4O7 Had the pleasure of sampling this at the 1/27/2008 Pittsburgh ratebeer.com gathering and festival upstairs, Sharp Edge Creekhouse. It will be a long time, if ever I am invited again and I see a spread of bottles like I did there - ever again. I am not good enough for the beers that were that we sampled! For example, how about this beer, the prime example of smoke from yinzer! Aroma of fine honey glazed ham or sweet pie! Almost sickening in olfactory sweetness. Attractive like it must be for a bee to a beautiful flower! Look is very clear pale yellow. Barely any carbonation. taste is more woody than smoky. Vanilla at times. Very very unique, difficult and meaty! Thanks Mark, glad to have had the

(Green's Trip: 08') I have had almost all of the Aecht brews and the lagerbier seems very appetizing so I picked a bottle up to try. Aroma on this is grainy as well as full of malty sweetness with some whisps of smokiness coming through as well as some cardboard. Appearance is a golden yellow in color with a medium-sized head on top that is fuzzy and a bleach-white in color and only diminishes slightly. Mouthfeel is light-bodied with some grainy complexity as well as malty balance with a palate that is a bit thin. Flavor is of faint smokiness with the usual lager characteristics with an aftertaste that is clean and crisp and a finish that is refreshing. Overall, the least smokey of all the Aecht line-up but good for sessionability for sure.
