Beer looks good but everything else is average. Weak porter flavour with a hint of raspberry. Very little aroma and watery mouthfeel. I agree, not the best from Tree.

Bomber from the LCBO and last from this batch of brews, from this brewery, for this time. Pours a dark brown colour with a light beige head that has average retention, but not much lace. Roasted malts aroma balanced by the mild berries. The mouthfeel is kind of watery (expected a bit of tart), but easy going down. The taste is light as well with some notes of chocolate and raspberries. Hints of hop show up in there. Nothing too fancy, but a refreshing lightly-fruity porter.

I tried this beer on June 2, 2012 after purchasing bfrom the Queen's Quay LCBO outlet in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a beautiful ruby red colour with a thin tan head. The aroma was weak, but what aroma ther was consisted of raspberry, grainy malt, and floral hops. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour is raspberry, acidic notes, and weak yeasty notes. The worst Tree beer I've had to date. -

Pours a dark clouded black-breown with some ruby highlights in the pour stream. Smallish off-white cap does not last long and does not lace the glass. (common with high acidity fruit beers). Aroma is nice with all components in balance = roasty dark malts, sweet crystal malts, a bit of char from black patent, nettle-like aroma of the hops and a demure hint of ripe berry fruit. In the flavor profile we see the big roast malts in front with berry and hop flavor in almost perfect balance - finishes clean, semi dry and bitter with fruity tartness. I’m not a great fan of fruit beers but this one is unique in its careful balance between fruit-malt-hops. If it has a fault its that it sits a tad thin in the palate.

If this beer was overseen by the VQA, it would be perfect. This means there is no real faults by the beer. To call the beer a good beer would be a whole other thing though... It is balanced, subtle, no overpowering, fake smelling or tasting raspberry. Decent mouthfeel, neither strong nor thin. Nice dark colouring, with a filmy head which retains. Very porter like, like a refined stout. Aftertaste doesnt exist. Lightyears from saying anything bad about this beer, but I wont be reccomending it to anyone.

Bottle: Poured a clear medium brown color ale with a small fizzy head with minimal retention and no lacing. Aroma of raspberry with light roasted notes. Taste of somewhat tart raspberry with some light roasted notes with no apparent hops. Carbonation is way too fizzy for the style with a thin body. Not bad overall but not something I would wish to have very often.

Poured out an ok velvety tan head that fades to a film but sure leave nice lacing everywhere. Dark brown brew. The aroma is not that bad. It's pretty mild which is nice only considering the addition of the raspberry flavour. Mild is better. Strong and upfront would ruin this beer. Raspberry of some sort, slight hops, malts that just mash together roasted qualities with chocolate (weak and orangy). The raspberry aroma keeps separated from the other aromas. Slight sweaty smell that I've noted multiple times. The taste is nothing special but at least the raspberry isn't overpowering and fake. Good roasted malts and mild chocolate, slight herbal spice. All the flavours are muted. Some fruitiness. Smooth in the mouth with the exception of a notable tangy overtone. Finishes unmemorable. I'm just not down with porters - especially ones that lack character.

650 ml brown bottle, block lettering. Pours black, reddish brown highlites, creamy tan colored foam. Hint of roasted cocoa, but predominantly raspberry. Toasted malt flavor, with the raspberries coming through in the flavor. Dark chocolate, maybe some bitter coffee, sweet fruit. The mouthfeel and body might be a bit thin, but still good carbonation to maintain a thin head. I would needf them side by side, but this is not as full bodied or flavored as Spy Porter. The raspberry addition overtakes the porter qualitries, but still makes it a good winter seasonal fruit beer.

The only negative about this beer was the almost complete lack of aroma. Or maybe it's just my nose that is no good. However, it did look good, with a dark reddish brown colour beneath a thin white head. Taste was very good, being very much a porter with the mandatory roasted malts and some burnt coffee as well. The icing on this cake was the raspberry influence, being just enough to let you it's there and yet not so much as to make things too sweet. Mouthfeel was right as was the finish. Good beer.
