A big, hoppy, brown ale is just what you need to make it through the meteorological ups and downs of spring. Durty, one of our most talked about Short Batch releases, graduates to fill a long-vacant spring slot in Smuttynose’s seasonal beer rotation. Each bottle and pint features a delicious balance of carmelly brown ale malt flavors and the hop profile of a double IPA. Durty has enough oomph to get you through the frosty mornings and chilly nights, while the light body and hop flavor will awaken your tongue and senses for the coming warm weather. We’re also excited about Durty’s packaging. It’s our first beer with two distinct images. There’s no telling what the label mix will be in a six pack or twelve pack, but both images are featured on the six pack and twelve pack containers.

Boom, this packs a punch! Nose of malt and vanilla. Dark ruby body is topped by caramel colored minimum head with moderate lace.Mouth is medium bodied, almost chewy, and quite fizzy in a good way.Rye is very present in the mouth with some sweet roasted malts and a bitter finish. The alcohol is VERY warming. The finish is a bit thin and pretty clean. Good night Irene.

Comes out of tap translucent dark mahogany with a nice light tan head. Sharp, hoppy aroma has earthy, caramel, and toasted malt notes. Flavor has hoppy, grassy, earthy, woody and caramel tones for a distinctive chord of tastes. Texture is smooth, fairly firm, not so fizzy. Get down and Durty!

Clear, but deep brown body, the cap has settled to a thin filmy ring. Aromas of citrus hops and caramel. Flavor is much the same as the aromas with the caramel malts losing out to the hops. Nice slightly bitter finish, good roast. Overall a rather nice beer from Smuttynose.

Pretty much what the description says....a hoppy strong/double brown ale. I usually find these stronger browns in the 8% plus range on the sweeter side, or not balanced that great. The extra hops here helps to solve that problem. Almost like a winter-style IPA. Has a darker brown appearance with a semi-frothy tan head. I would get this again.

A deeply dark reddish tinged brown colored ale with a huge frothy textured, beige colored head rising robustly above. There's great hang time on the head. Settles eventually into an impressively thick low lying film and ringlet. Nice caramel-grapefruit nose. Deep roastiness on first sip. There's some grapefruit and caramel in the taste. Full bodied. Excellent drink.
