This style has always failed me in the past so lets see how this one fairs. Beer pours from the bottle dark brown and formed a nice creamy nipple cap. Taste is good, smell is hard to find but its there. No heavy coffee, no burnt, and no suck in the smell. I swear I'm smelling fruit loops, hints of soap round it off. Sweet and fruity, good bitter, very mild coffee, mild spice, I love the perfumey fruits. Alcohol shows up in the finish. This eclipses any other black IPA that has ever been made! Rich, thick, and hoppy. Need more of this!!!

Definately more like a big stout than an IPA. Big, thick mouthfeel, tons of roasted malts and dark chocolate. I think I got a hint of anise in there too. Bit of a bitter aftertaste, which is the only prominent place where the bittering emerges. Quite a delicious beer. Don't know where my friend found this...I think he was in Santa Cruz. shared with friends and random hikers who came down of of Mount Whitney yesterday. For as thick as this is, it is still very smooth. a winner. Want to check out more Beer Here offerings.

Bottled@Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Pitch black colour, mediumsized beigeish brown head. Aroma is chocolate, some mild hops and quite much nuttyness and slight fruityness lruking in the background. Flavour is quite much roasted malts, some soour wooden notes as well as mmild grassyness. Pleasantly balanced.

sampled on 1/2/10. 500 ml bottle with mitch. pours a pitch black color. thick, creamy, tan head. aroma is roasted malts, chocolate and hops. taste has lots of chocolate, roasty malt, and citrusy hops. a little sweetness. mouthfeel is full. medium/full body. aftertaste is a little bitter, but i think it may be from the roasted malts not the hops.

expecting a black ipa, got a stout-type brew, though not quite a stout either. poured black with a thick head. the hoppiness was not evident at all, but we got over it by the end as the chocolate, rye, and other weird unique notes were enjoyed. not very hoppy though.

Very nice, hoppy stout. This beer pours deep and dark, opaquely black. The liquid actually seemed quite viscous during the pour. It feels like a heavy glass of beer, though the hops and roasted malt balance out this weight on the palate. Anyway, the head is thick, creamy and mocha-colored. The beer smells quite good. It’s floral and a bit piney with some deep coffee/chocolate malt character. I was expecting more hops and more aroma punch, but what’s there is quite nice and hardly the mess that’s possible with this sort of experimentation. The flavor is just wonderful and delivers the hop punch that I expected in the aroma. It’s mostly a bitter bite, but there are some citric/pine notes around the edges and at the finish. The malt flavors are round and full. There’s a lot of roast, some fruitiness, prunes and raspberries, and an excellent coffee note. I’d call it a stout, but the hopping makes the strong ale categorization understandable. Really good beer. I’m excited that we’re getting Beer Here in San Francisco.

Strong aroma is oily and smoky with overtones of miso and yeast and hints of caramel and molasses. It pours like motor oil, coming out a warm chocolaty sable with a very thick and fine-bubbled tan head. Flavor is strongly of molasses with a strong and pleasantly surprising hoppy component and undertones of fine roast coffee and unsweet chocolate as well as a caramel hint. There is also an odd rubbery tone that I usually find with wheat beers. Texture is fairly smooth and not all that tingly, and the finish is both smoky and hop-bitter, an interesting combination.

Dark Hops Sampled on 1/2/2010. This American Strong Ale pours a eclipse black color from a 50cl bottle. Large sized tan foamy head with nice lacing and good retention. The aroma is roasted malts, chocolate and hops. A medium bodied ASA. Malts are chocolate and roasty, with a weird touch of ice tea. Hops are floral and citrusy. Nice balance. A decent amount of bitter. More in the Black IPA category. Nice slightly dry finish. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and slightly dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Bottle, 8.5% ABV, as Beer Here Dark Hops Hoppy Black Ale, RBNAG 2009 in Vatlandsvåg. Brewed at Nøgne Ø, Norway. Pitch black colour, moderate brown head. Very nice aroma of roasted malts, coffee and chocolate, hints of liquorice. Distinctly roasty flavour, very dry, notes of strong bitter coffee, hints of dark bitter chocolate. Good, but I’d like a little more sweetness.

Pours out in a an opaque black colour with a rich lasting tan-coloured foam. Loads of piney and resinous hops in the aroma with touches of roasted malts and caramel. Full-bodied with strong notes of of pepper, black chocolate, espresso, lemon-zest and resin. Long hop-bitter finish of resin, grass. grapefruit, crackers and black chocolate. An uncompromising brew that takes your breath away. Quite brilliant stuff!
