Hoppy Feet has been lovingly crafted by combining Premium malt with lots of Amarillo and Columbus Hops. Grapefruit and Pine are balanced on the nose and on the palate by a nutty, dark chocolate, roasted backbone.

Slightly older bottle... solid brew. Main players are orange peel and tootsie roll like chocolate with some roasted dark malts and a decent hop bitterness. Pretty good, probably a little better fresher.

Deep brown pour with a light brown heady and sticky lacing. Roasty aromas of chocolate and ash with a hop presence as well. Chocolate notes with an astringent pine finish - creamy yet acidic. I have grown out of black IPAs in recent years, but this is a solid offering.

12 oz bottle, bottled on 2/21/13. Pours dark brown with a big pillowy tan head that retains fairly well and laces the glass.
The aroma is sweet roasted chocolate malts and a little fruit with some piney hops.
The flavor is sweet roasted chocolate malts and a little fruit and coffee with a big bitter tarry finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.
Overall, a pretty good black IPA. A bit too much roast and tarry notes. -

Took about fifteen minutes to pour it out into a pint glass even with a slow pour. Very dark brown, massive dense head. Possibly the best looking beer I've seen. Leaves the glass coated with lacing. Stuffed up but smell pine and roasted malt. Toast and roast flavour, not as hoppy as I expected but an excellent beer no matter what style it is. I would recommend you try it.Don't forget to lick the glass.

One of my new favorite brewers. Haven't had a shoe that doesn't fit yet. I had bought the Hoppy Feet 1.5 (1st Anniversary Ale) which is a bolder/stronger version of this, but did not want to sample that before trying this first. Can't wait to try that one now. Not a huge fan of black IPAs, but this one really worked for me. Almost like an American Porter with some extra citrus hops....or at least similar to Cigar City's Jose Marti. Super dark brown-near black appearance. Flavor like a hoppy IPA, but some nice caramel and chocolate malts to balance it out. Fairly bitter at the end though....citrus/grapefruit, etc. Solid beer that is recommended, and one that I will try again....especially if they bottle it in 4-packs.

Aroma is smoky AND hoppy, and I like both! It has an undertone of chocolate and a hint of fresh-cut wood, enough to get me drooling. It pours a luscious dark chocolate brown with a fluffy and rather persistent light tan head that sticks around for a bit and leaves some good lacing. Flavor is hoppy and bitter with a hint of evergreen and a mocha undertone and a touch of licorice. Full-bodied texture is smooth yet edgy, and quite fizzy, leaving a hoppy and chocolaty finish. Hoppy Feet will give you a happy mouth!

An ok beer but not quite what i was expecting, Aromas and flavors were predominately of burnt, toasted malts. I was expecting a bit more hop presence in a black IPA, the hops are most noticeable with a bitter finish. Overall an ok beer, but if you are looking for a hop fix, well......

A dark brown colored beer. A moderate, frothy-tight textured, light beige head rises above. Some hang time. It settles into a thick foamy ringlet and film. The nose has roasted malt and piney hops in it. The tasting kicks in a little citrus into that aromatic profile. A creamy, nicely carbonated beer. A home run

The original Clown Shoes beer, and definitely the best. A solid darkbrown pour, with a huge light broiwn head that lasts...reminiscent of many a stout. Aroma is pine, citrus, and some roasted malt. Flavour is huge here...lots of maltt chocolate, some roasted coffee, and lots of citrusy hops....chocolate covered grapefruit? Maybe!
