At 4.8% ABV I wasn't expecting much but this pale ale is somewhat tasty. Nice dense head that stays around awhile. Slightly dry and slightly bitter aftertaste with a nut-like (or is it butery) flavor. But the bad news (for me anyway) is that it's part of an overpriced sampler case. If I'm going to spend $31 for a case I expect the beer in it to be stronger than 5%.

Another brew sampled from their Captian's Collection variety pack. I'd say that I like this tied for 2nd with their Brown Ale...with the Blue Fin Stout coming in at #1. This would be a daytime or starter beer for me, or something to come down off a heavy dark. On the lighter side, but has some decent flavor. Mostly caramel malts and some mild hops at the end. I guess I would try this again since the price is right.

Paired this with chicken and stuffing. Nice amber color. Moderate frothy white head. Aroma is weak, sweetness. Not much of a body to this ale. Not watery, but not robust. Some smoothness. The taste is hops, fry, bitter and citrusy. Overall not bad but a goof representation of American Pale Ale.

Bottle: Poured a deep copper color ale with a good size foamy head with good retention and some nice lacing notes. Aroma of English dry hops with a nice medium sweet caramel malt base. Taste is also a well balance mix between some English style hops with some notes of delicious caramel malt. Very well balance overall with loads of character but still easily drinkable. Full body with good carbonation. Really well made and possibly helps that I got a really fresh bottle directly from the brewery.

This poured a very inviting amber color with a thick head. There was a nice spicy and fruity aroma upon opening. The taste was rather smooth and lacked the usual idodine/bitter taste that some pale ales can have....I found it to be a rather pleasant brew-not anything out of the ordinary, but nice. Give it a try!

Aroma is spicy and mildly malt with some pleasant caramel aromas coming through with some faint hoppiness. The appearance is a clean and sharp burgundy red amber with a medium-sized head on top that is off-white in color and dissipates to a light and frothy lacing that sticks to the glass. The mouthfeel is light-bodied and smooth with some slight smoky malt complexity as well as decent hoppiness balance with a palate that is wet-like and good. The flavor is of sweetness, caramel, and maltiness with an aftertaste that is clean and sharp with a finish light and highly drinkable. Overall, nice sessionability with this brew and is a bit run-of-the-mill but has enough taste to keep you interested; recommended brew here...

Just bought this one and a few other singles at a local store with quite a few craft beers. I generally haven't been a big fan of Shipyard but this one was a somewhat pleasant surprise. Pours a dark golden color with a moderate head. Not much in the way of aroma. Taste consists of a little malt, floral sweetness and a nice dry hoppy bite. Not bad and actually probably one of the better beers I've sampled from this company.

Pours with a frothy, initially three-finger thick, light tan colored head that sits atop lightly hazy, light amber tinged, copper colored beer. Aromas of toasty malt, caramel, green apples, green herbs and a slight lemon zest aromatic are all noticeable.
Sharp with an herbaceous bitterness that, while somewhat light, lingers from beginning to end. The hop notes here are sort of green, almost menthol like and have a grassy / hay like edge to them. Touches of green apple and perhaps some pear-like notes make up the fruit notes found in this beer. This beer is quite strange, it seems a bit too unbalanced as the hop notes are really sharp and green. Not a bad beer, it just seems a bit out of whack.

Sampled in California suprisingly. Very nice and smooth beer. Aroma and appearance are just tame and kind of light. However the beer drinks really well and has a suprising flavor that is rich and lasting. A nice choice.

Amber, creamy white head. Leafy and buttery citus aroma. Herbs, caramel, butter and toffee in flavour. Butterscotch in the finish with hints of citric fruit.
