This beer comes courtesy of beerguy101, thanks as always go to mitch. This beer pours a very deep ruby red color with a thick white head and relatively good lacing. The aroma is very strange with some malts, a hint of hops, roasted barley, corn and cardboard being detectable. Yes...im aware that those are very funky things to be detecting in an alt. The flavor is medium bodied and...well....boring. Heavily cardboardy flavor, something stale about the malt. Roasty malted finish, dry and unappealing with a hint of bittering hops and pine. Very "english" in its dryness true to style, but overall truly bland and boring.

Sampled at the Lynnwood International Swill Fest. 500ml swing top. Dark amber color. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is roasty malts, fruit and cardboard. A medium bodied alt. Malts are fruity and sweet. Lots of cardboard flavors. Bland and boring as hell. A touch cola like. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is crisp and dry. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

I did not have my beer out of the swing-top bottle, but instead it was out of the stubby bottle. Body was a medium-dark brown cloudy color with a scan off-white head. Aroma is mostly caramel malts with a thin dark fruit character. Body is a touch off with a watered down raisin/caramel flavor. Nothing really special about this one.

Came in a flip-top bottle that reminded me of the Werner comics I tried to read in high school: "flash bier! flasch bier!" (But Werner was drinking Flensburger Pilsener.) This beer is translucent but dark mahogany brown with a thin cap that leaves surprisingly dense lacing. Smells like musty bubblegum, as if a Belgian tripel went Irish. The flavor is much drier than a tripel, though it still has this odd musty, earthy bubblegum flavor. There's a bittersweetness of woody hay or lightly smokey grass. Odd, but wet, light, and enjoyable. I'd gladly drink it again.

Half liter swing-top bottle from brewfiend. Pours a very deep copper to brown color, darker than most alts, head weaker than most, lacing very weak for the style. The aroma is malty, caramel, molasses, somewhat bready. The flavor was off-malts, caramel, molasses, fruity (cherry-ish), roasty (beyond the normal and style-appropriate nutty-toasty flavor), finishing with an ample herbal / grassy hoppiness that made it drinkable. Too bad these things don't travel better across the pond. Mouthfeel was moderate, a little slick, in need of more carbonation. Thanks, Brad, for yet another alt to add to my alt resume!

Bottle courtesy of Plucier: Poured a clear deep brown color alt with a small foamy head with limited retention. Aroma of light roasted malt with some light toffee. Taste is also dominated by some light roasted toffee notes. Body is really average with some medium carbonation. I’m not sure I am totally getting the style since I don’t encounter it often enough but I thought this example was generally boring.

(Cryptic "Best before end 88 10 69". Anyone can decipher that?) Very nice looking beer. Crystalline mahogany hue with a thin, ecru head, and whispy lacing. Aroma is all malt and yeast, bready, and slightly sweet. Fizzy mouthfeel, and sweet taste with a "burpy" finish. It's alright, not spectacular, but decently priced so I don't feel disappointed.

Pours mahagony with perfect clarity and lasting, creamy head. I found the aroma to be both strong and complex by style, boasting a sweet molasses malt base with clean, herbal topnotes. Hearty grain flavor with light hoppy bitterness. More distinctive hopping would have been preferable such as to bring out a specific characteristic like pine or floral. A lingering aftertaste was not well received by this reviewer. Body was thinnish and somewhat undercarbonated. Drinkable, like Grolsch, just to steal the swoosh-tops for homebrewing.

Sampled from bottle. Pours clear, dark copper brown with a tall, creamy off-white head. This alt's aroma is very malty with subtle apple/pear notes. Its flavor is balanced and reminiscent of the aroma except that it has a metallic hint that I'm not too find of. Medium-bodied with moderate to light carbonation. I'd like to try this one closer to the source as I'd bet its a great beer when very fresh.

This german Alt had a solid base of flavor, but sort of plain, rather uninspiring. it just didnt go much anywhere....... pours a Medium body, dark brown with a head. Aroma was sweet malts; sugary dark caramel. Smelled in a way flavored with syrup........... A full, round and crisp sweet taste, toasty, with cinnamon spice, citrus, and chocolate malted notes... a Wet cardboard likeness became increasingly evident once i picked up on it. Nice with dinner

04.14.05 500ml swingtop. Chestnut brown under a tall, brainy head that lasts. Aroma is bready, grassy, light roast - more roasty than many alts. Dry and toasty brew, herbal /grassy hoppiness. Soft palate despite the driness leaves me wanting more body, more malts to fill it out.
