About:
Right now saisons and bretty beers are doing it for me, but I always dig on barley wines. I love fishing, writing, literature, and beer and I spend much of my time devoted to any or all of these loves. And there's nothing more pleasing than mixing a love-fest soup of drunken fishing, hiking, camping, and writing...all with the dog at my side. Cheers!

Not as bitter as I'd expect from an ESB, but quite drinkable. Not very dry, either, but a bit of hoppiness. This beer found it's way into the sale case at my fav store, 2.99 a six pack (And no tax in MT). For 3 bucks, this didn't have to be my fav ESB, still tasty and drinkable.

02.11.05 750ml bottle, cork dated 2.004 Pours a hazed yellowish gold with an initially massive and frothy white head that quickly fades to a thin, coating layer of foam with sudsy bubbles. Suprisingly unattractive for some reason I don’t fully understand. Aromas are very sweet, lightly herbal, mint, touches of raw bell pepper, celery, and lemon. Hops and yeasts seem an odd mix on nose, muddled by weakly presented maltiness. Much more bitter than expected, that’s a nice surprise in such a big Belgian. Lightly floral, more herbs, some pineapple that lingers along with a yogurt like aftertaste and finish. A sort of cocoa butter flavor and aroma emerging with temp. Long, dry ending. Little alcohol dominance other than the pepperiness. So-so tasting, but I’m not enthralled; it smells funny and ain’t so pretty.

Brewtopia’04. Smells very flowery for a Belgian, well, a different kind of flowery. I assume that is somehow related to the ’bitter’ness to come. Massive unripe pear and bleu cheese flavors. Barny. Musty, yet fresh and alive. Fabulous and fascinating. I loved this beer. Great astringency. This beer put me in the mood for farm cheese and champagne.

11.2 oz bottle at Toronado. 05.22.04 didn’t get bottling date (I had already been at Toronado for a while). Wow! Caramel sweet, deep wine grape aroma. Cloudy, orange/gold color. Finishes sour, apple, barn, cheese. Lingering aftertaste. Bright and exciting beer! Lots of alcohol. What a treat!

08.06.05 750ml bottle, trade from footbalm. Beautiful hazed, glowing gold. Lofty fluff of white foam speckled with yeasty flotsam. Inviting. Luscious, naughty aromas of buttered orchids, candied grapes, sugary toffee, dried banana. Sweet and grapey, candied yams, grandma’s sweet potatoes, warm applesauce, citrus touches. Mild, hidden alcohol. Velvet palate, soft and sensual, filling. Strongly reminiscent of Allagash Triple Reserve.
