Style: Alt. The name of this beer style comes from the German word "alt" meaning "old". This refers to the aging that alts undergo since they ferment more slowly and at colder temperatures than most ales. Slow fermentation helps condition the flavors in Alaskan Amber, contributing to its overall balance and smoothness. Flavor Profile: Richly malty and long on the palate, with just enough hop backing to make this beautiful amber colored "alt" style beer notably well balanced. History: Alaskan Amber is based on a recipe from a turn-of-the-century brewery in the Juneau area. It was voted "Best Beer in the Nation" in the 1988 Great American Beer Festival Consumer Poll. Ingredients: Water, malt, hops and yeast with no adjuncts, no preservatives and no pasteurization. Our glacier-fed water originates in the 1,500 square-mile Juneau Ice Field. The malt is a rich blend of premium two-row Pale and Crystal malts. Cascade hops from the Yakima Valley and imported Czechoslovakian Saaz hops impart bittering flavors and aromas. Recommendations: Great with a variety of foods. Serve with king or silver salmon, flavorful meats and hearty Italian dishes. Perfect with pizza. A good beer for the first-time micro drinkers as well as seasoned connoisseurs. Specifications: Original Gravity: 1.054, ABW 4.0%, ABV 5.0%, Bitterness: 18 IBU, Color 22 SRM

A slightly murky mahogany pour, head is off-white, and generous. Aroma is caramel malt, some cereal grains, a light citrus note, and yeast. Mouthfeel is creamy. Flavor is nicely balanced between the rich malty sweetness of the grains and the light, yet bitter hop finish. Highly recommended.

Pours a reddish gold color a creamy white head. Malty taste and aroma. Sweet caramel taste in the mouth with honeyed, slightly nutty flavors. Very pleasant tasting, warm and mouth-filling, with light bitterness. Very drinkable.

Purchased a 6-pack of this at Albertsons in Vegas. Pours a clean deep amber colour with fizzy beige head that dissipates quickly, and not much lace is left. Malty aromas with some darker breads, fruity notes and caramel. Wet boring mouthfeel. Fruity malt taste with hints of strawberries. Very mild roasted malts in the background. Refreshing amber altbier but not much here other than that.

Clear copper collor with light brown lasting foam head, lacing to glass. At Molly’s so had to ask for a glass that did not come from the freezer. Little aroma, taste is sweet, caramel and nutty. Short aftertaste, sweet. (Houston 201301)

Pours a crystal clear amber with not much of a head. Aroma of caramel malts and a bit of sweetness. Taste is solid with hoppy notes. Texture is very creamy and just dances on the tongue. Not as good in the bottle but is damn good on tap. Will definitely have again.

Comes out of the tap a dark, almost coppery amber with a thick, pale buttery-tan head. Aroma has a malty core and hints of hops and cloves. Mouth-filling flavor delights with tasty malt and hints of caramel, hops and cloves. Texture has firm body and plenty of fizz. Definitely would have pleased all them gold miners!

Pours a fairly clear ruby amber with an off-white head which dissipates quickly into a spotty lacing. The aroma is made up of primarily sweet malts. Hard to pull anything else anything else. The taste is a semi-sweet caramel malt flavor is prevalent, some earthy notes, a subtle herbal and hop finish. The beer has a nice mouthfeel. Very fulfilling without being thick. Carbonation is perfect, with a really pleasant bite. A bit dry at the finish. Overall a solid offering from Alaskan.

Not bad, not bad. better than regular beer, not anywhere near Louise's Demise or House of Brews Amber, nearly even with Leine's amber. What's funnier about it was I hat at the Rite Place in Allouez and if you want to see the bartender smile ask him for the beer menu. He'll chuckle a little bit and the n when he see's you weren't joking he hand you the list of buds and millers and say, "Yeah this one isn't up to date cuz they keep changing em with stuff like platinum 64, and shock top and miller chill and crafty stuff like that." So this was about the best I could do for there.

Sampled... a couple of 20 oz. times... at the SeaTac Aiport on 12-30-09 at the Seattle Tap Room. Although the Pacific time on my watch suggested that coffee and/or juice - perhaps a Bloody mary - would have been more in line for the drink of the hour, my Central time secondary time zone on my watch and body clock suggested that it was time for a beer... and an omelet. A very nice amber that was not too sweet as is often the case, not too bitter. Very nicely balanced and very nice to view in the tall glass. Stellar lacing and nose. I could actually seek this one out... and that's a stretch for me and an amber ale.

Thanks Zythum. Poured a clear amber color with a 2 finger beige head. The aroma was, I thought, weak, but did have a pleasent malty flavor with some nutty notes and a dry finish. Good representation of the style.
