Uerige Alt is the richest beer in Germany. Nevertheless (or just because of it) this legendary Düsseldorf old beer is so full-bodied and aromatic. Our top-fermented specialty has been brewed since 1862 from barley malt, caramel malt, roasted malt, cone hops, water – and with our very special Uerige yeast. Our Uerige Alt is regularly voted among the ten best beers in Germany. It has an alcohol content of 4.7% and a minimum fresh ness of eight weeks.

The beer pours a mahogany color, appears translucent, and topped with a thin filmy head. Lots of grains, light caramel, and toasted malts in the nose. Average mouthfeel. Flavor starts out sweet, finishes with a bitter roasty kick. Worthy of the King of Alts title.

As this pours out of the bottle into the glass, it does not smell very good. It pours a translucent dark brown colour with a huge bubbly light brown head which lasts. The aroma is caramel, roasted malt, weak dark fruit notes, and floral hops. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with average carbonation. The flavour is caramel, roasted malt, yeast, burnt wood, with an oily bitter hop finish.

Bottle with ceramic swivel top from LCBO. Pours a fairly large frothy off-white head and has a cloudy amber appearance. Decent dirty lacing. Aromas of toasty and light roasted malts. A little bit smoky as well. Flavours are earthy and resin hops, toasty malts and a little bit sweet. Some subtle dry fruit notes also. Slick and somewhat dry moutheel.

Best before date on back label is 12/2017. Pours a slight hazy amber colour with a huge creamy warm beige cap from the active carbonation. Very long lasting with thick foamy lacing. Sweet aromas of caramel, toasted malts, bread and hints of banana, bubble gum. The taste is not really sweet. A little fruitiness, but more breaded malts with the yeast. Some decent hoppiness in the finish. A good Altbier, but seems to be stronger on wheat with the banana notes.

Clear dark brown, off-white lacing, lasting foam head. Complex aroma, licorice. Strong taste, a bite. Licorice again, small roast, herbs coriander, salmiac. Spicy beer. (Velp 20141)

Slightly lighter and slightly sweeter and prunier than the sticker. Almost as good, but leaves juuuust a bit less of an impression as the layers of malt complexity are ever so slighty replaced with more floral (but still light) hoppiness.

The brewer of the ultimate altbier. A dark rust coloured pour, clear, with a thin white head. Aroma is biscuit malts, some sweetness, and floral hops. Flavour is mild with the malty sweetness very prevalent. Just an excellent beer.

Pours out in a hazy brownish amber colour with a low creamy lasting white head. Crisp fresh grassy and peppery hop aroma with firm malty notes of fudge and nuts. Medium-bodied with notes with dryish fresh notes of wet grass, grass, mild pepper, prunes fudge and burnt caramel. Solid yet crisp mouthfeel. Long bitter finish of of wet grass with hints of fudge and sweet berries. Now, this was a great Alt!. Lovely!.

Something different - trying an Altbier. attractive ruby red/ brown pur. a1 finger tan head that follows down the glass with creamy lacing. Nose has fruit, raisins, a little caramel, if I closed my eyes and went by my nose only, this could be a Orval lite. Smooth creamy mouth-feel, a little bitter. B ready/yeasty on the end. Very enjoyable- will have to buy more.

500 ml fliptop bottle bought at the brewpub, as a 4.7 % ABV. Poured an unfiltered mahogany or ruby brown colored Alt with a two fingers slight beige creamy foamy head that had a long retention. Active carbonation. Great lacing. The aroma is caramel malts, dried fruits, nuts, hay. The flavour is heavy bitter, a lot of grassy hops, caramel and roasted malts. The mouthfeel is crispy and smooth. This light to medium bodied Alt has a lingering hoppy bitter and dry finish. One of the standarts of the style. A pretty good one!
