Nice roasty aroma, perhaps has some volatile olfactory. Vey black in appearance with no head but decent legs. Initially threatend to be bitter but it morphs thru the palate to a sweeter easier to accept brew. Rich and friendly, fun and interesting. Not as viscous as many better oatmeal stouts. Some medium carbonation is present, acceptable for this style. Has a medium bitter linger that fades rapidly after each sip. Cannot hold a candle to Sammy Smiths or Mackeson XXX but certainly holds its ground amongst the other sweet stouts out there. Exceptionally better than Church Brew Hazelnut and Bells Cherry Stout. Perhaps on par with Bells Double Cream, Left hand milk, Sammy Adams Cream and Lancaster milk stout. A rather enjoyable example of a dark beer. Finish leaves an impression of beer with personality but lacks the offense of many dark bitter beers.

Well, it is Christmas Day and it is cloudy outside when even a bit of sleet so I cracked a stout from Saranac. Aroma is of burnt and roasted malt with some oats coming through as well as some nice bittering aromas and some dark chocolate and coffee with even some creamy vanilla. Appearance is a very deep mahogany to cheastnut-brown in color when held to the light with a full head on top that is light-brown in color and diminishes to a thin and creamy lacing that adheres to the glass. Mouthfeel is robust and smooth with coimplexities of roasted malt as well as some nice balance and offers a palate that is a bit dry but creamy and smooth and is well-rounded. Flavor is of roasted malt and some burnt wood with an aftertaste that is of earthy oats and sweetness with a finish that offers some light bittering nuances and is a tad dry but very hearty and tasty and perfect for this kind of a day. Overall, nice brew here and worth sampling and definitely recommended and one of the best Saranac brews I have had; Merry Christmas to all!!!!

Pours a deep cola color. Head is nice and thick, tan. Aroma is burnt caramels, toffee, can't smell the oatmeal nor taste it. Tastes weak, oats, malts and sweet.

The roasted coffee-like aroma was fairly nice and the beer poured a deep brown color with a bit of lacing, which was nice looking. However, the taste was metallic and kind of blah.

Awkward taste. Oat Stout. Just misses all the needs of the style. No bite. no style. Saranac maybe is trying to make to many styles. More water than malt.

Poured a dark brown, prunish color with a medium sized, light tan head, that quickly diminished, leaving very light lacing on the glass. Aroma of mild roasty notes, a light amount of chocolate, but also some metal in there as well. More roast and metal in the taste, oats, faint chocolate, but a surprisingly creamy mouthfeel. While not my favorite oatmeal stout, it was better than I expected.

Saranac Oatmeal Stout ranks in as the 3rd best beer in the sampler...mainly because I like stouts and they didn't entirely screw it up. It poured a nice black colored body with a tan head. The aroma was roasted coffee. The taste was smooth with hints of coffee and chocolate. Overall not bad.

This oat stout pours with hints of red and a small head. It has a delicately sweet roasty aroma. Smooth flavors are fresh, with tastes of earth, oak, black coffee, and syrupy roasted grain. This is medium bodied, while on the lighter side of stouts, with a mouthfeel of gentle bubbles. A sweet and smoky finish is crisp, with a bit of dryness in the aftertaste.

Deep dark black with a thick long lasting tan head. The head does give way to some stubborn lacing. Roasted malt nose with hints of coffee mixed in, even found mild hints of chocolate. Taste was very smooth and thirst quenching. Nice roasted malt feel with semi sweet middle and a mild bitter finish. This one was a surprise for me. Really a decent brew and easy to enjoy one or many.

From the winter sampler pack. The body is black, but shows plenty of ruby when held to light. The very thin head is light tan colored. The aroma is roasted walnut along with some light coffee and mocha cream. The taste is nasty cheap milk chocolate with some light burnt toast crust. There is a strange finish of day old coffee. Not a very good oatmeal, but not bad either.
