Down 'n Dirty Chocolate Oatmeal Stout is big, black and rich. Brewed with cocoa nibs for a sublime chocolate experience. Background: When the railroad was completed between Madison and Milwaukee in 1882, mucky soils in the glacial. swamp near Lake Mills made the tracks most unsteady. A bridge-tender stood guard, 24 hours-a-day, to warn oncoming trains of the danger ahead and caution them to slow their pace. One engineer chose not to head this warning and the locomotive lost control and tumbled off the bridge into the mud below. The train is said to be forever entombed deep in the muck along the present day Glacial Drumlin trail. We brew Down 'n Dirty Chocolate Oatmeal Stout thick and black like the glacial muck.

Pours a pitch black with a 2 finger chocolate colored head. Carbonated , you can see bubbles in the bottom of the glass even though light does not make an attempt to pass through it. Aroma is very strong of chocolate, coffee and roasted malts. Taste is very malty with hints of dark chocolate and coffee bitterness. Creamy and finishes like nothing was there. A tad watered down. Very good.

An outstanding Impy Stout. One of the darkest pours I have seen in a while, completely pitch black with a creamy dark brown head. Lots of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate in both the aroma and flavour. Again, an outstanding beer.

Didn't pick up much oatmeal or cocoa nib action as promised on the label. Fairly standard stout with some roasted quality, but not much else. Medium bodied with a nice appearance.

Thick rich chocolate brown beer with a sweet coffee scent. Mouthfeel is full with flavors of chocolate and burnt coffee. A bit of a sharp aftertaste from the oatmeal, very complete beer, very good.

A righteous homegrown stout from just down the road in Lake Mills. Sorry I'm not there now to sample the Doubly Down 'n Even Dirtier being poured tonight (it'll soon be on draught at Romans' Pub, so no worries). But this one is just fine at the moment. Opaque and black as welding glasses, with a persistent mocha head and plenty of lacing. Rich dark chocolate in the nose and on the palate, and there's nothing wrong with that! A fine sweet stout and an excellent value; a stock to be maintained in my cellars.

Pours out a dark tan brown .. light to medium spotty foam, some sticky lacing but subdued .. . smooth as silk, some light chocolate and mocha flavours .. . a nice beer, and a good score, but it could even be beefier.. Why you cotton-picking...!

Pour is pitch black with a thick beige head that leaves a nice cap on the beer. Aroma of roasted malts with just a hint of dark chocolate. Chocolate shows up more in the finish. Very smooth and easy drinking. Wish I had a chocolate covered donut to go with this beer.

Tyranena is very underrated - everything I've had from them has been above average. This one from pfoxyjohn - pours mahogany black with a medium beige head and some nice lacing. Big bittersweet chocolate and roasted malts in the aromas with a touch of coffee. Taste is cocoa and coffee with roasted malts and a slightly dry finish. Thank you again John.

Yeah, like biting off a big chunk of bittersweet chocolate. Initial harsh, oily, burnt sharpness smooths and lingers, and lingers, and...lingers. Tasty, tasty. Full and rich; great color; robust nose. All these delicious stouts and porters emanating from Tyranena - poetic variations on a prosaic theme. MUSIC: Low Down and Dirty by Crooked Still. "You're low down and dirty, and I love the way you do // If I stay I'll never find my way back home."

Pours a brown/black color with a small tan head which doesn't stick around for too long. Lots of chocolate on the nose. Chocolate, coffee and deeply roasted malt on the palette. Sweet chocolatey beginning with a pleasant, dry finish. A good stout from an under recognized Midwest brewer. This is a stout worth checking out.
