Black coloured pour. Disappointing head retention and lacing. Roasted malt and hops blend well in the aroma. Some sweetness is also present. Big full flavour of roasted malt, burnt coffee, chocolate, smoke with a pine bitterness. Oatmeal gives it a little sweetness. Medium/smooth mouthfeel does not live up to expectations. Good but not the best breakfast beer.

I had this beer on draught at the Mikkeller bar in Copenhagen, Denmark. This beer was REALLY good. I thought the mouthfeel for this beer was spot on. At the end of the day, I think I prefer the original beer geek breakfast and I know I prefer the Weasel. No matter, another amazing "breakfast" beer - the hops are a nice touch.

KnoxBeerCrew tasting offering. Black pour, very tight tan head shrinking to a constant cap leaving heavy lacing. Little carbonation. Heavy toasted malt aroma, near burnt toast, coffee and black molasses, heavy and thick. Taste is just like the nose with a hugely roasted flavor, burnt oatmeal, toast, bitter and big. Loved this one.

Strong, smoky aroma has quality coffee, molasses and roast malt notes plus a hint of - anchovies? Pours an opaque dark chocolate brown with a fairly thick, if not overly persistent, dark tan head. Sublime flavor has firm smoky, coffee, molasses and roast malt components plus hints of chocolate and oatmeal. Smooth, firm-bodied texture does not have a lot of fizz, but the smoky mocha finish lingers for a while. Another winner from Mikkeller!

Shared bottle, at local tasting. ABV 7.5%. Black colour, large beige head. Typical American IPA aroma, piney and resinous notes, hints of catpiss. Moderate coffee notes. Roasty flavour, strong coffee notes, also plenty of resinous hops.

pours very dark brown, thinish tan head. ample carbonation, but not overdone. pretty smooth feel. fairly agressive on the hop aroma, and the bitterness in the flavor, though the coffee and chocolate flavors and aromas still come thorugh quite nicely. not as good as the original BGB, but pretty dang good as an alternate.

Sampled on 6/25/2011. This stout pours an eclipse black color from a 500ml bottle. Medium sized tan foamy head, nice retention and good lacing. The aroma is chocolate, coffee, hoppy and herbal. Medium bodied stout. The malts are chocolate, coffee, roasted malts and bitter. The hops are herbal and earthy. Decent carbonation. A lot of bitterness in this beer, first from the coffee, then from the roasted malts and then from the hops. There is a touch of sweetness that shows up every once in a while in the taste. This is a very coffee forward stout that’s been aggressively hopped. Yet kind of smooth and well balanced. Nice sipping beer. There is some alcohol presence even at 7.5%. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is bitter.

Very dark brown I’d almost call it black. Thick chocolate brown crown floating on top. Grapefruit, hoppy coffee aroma, with a familiar aroma I can’t place or even name but I know I know it, you know what I mean, you know? Burnt sugar and weird funk also is noticeable. This hop coffee combo is working for where others of this type have failed. Taste is just a mess, massive coffee hints of fruity citrus hops. A camp fire charcoal lingers forever in the after taste with a massive brutal bitter. I’m picking up a very odd sour flavor in the beer what would be easy to overlook unless you try hard to find it. beer is okayish…………… I can tell this is high quality but I’m not sure this is my cup of tea. I both like and dislike this beer its changing from sip to sip back and forth. The warmer the beer gets the more I like it the citrusy hops start to vanish and the bitter mellows with more of a chocolate coffee malt come on through. I guess I like it, maybe?, ya I like it.

First impression on the nose is grapefruit american hops, but that quickly disintegrates into a well balance fruity stout that does not have any fruit in it! Peach and apricot really seemed to take over in the beggining, but they gave way to tar and asphalt in the most endearing way. Great boiled oats and cinnamon start to show up, but only intermittently, liquorice also likes to make a cameo. some grass, dry grass shows up, so does some light cactus water. Eventually it just melds into a wicked wet wood, damp, mossy greatness. really stoked.Funnily enough, it does not deserve 9/10 yet each category it does, meaning... it is all awesome, it just is not greater than the sum of its parts like some beers are.

Bottled. Quite much pitch black colour, small beigeish brown head. Aroma is hops, grass, liquorice, toffee and some maltyness. Flavour is liquorice, some bready and sweetish malts along with floral and grassy hops. Mild old black coffee as well as some burnt wet wooden notes as well.
