Nice off the tap and paired well with the grilled swordfish and braised collard greens... slightly malty aroma with a hint of hops and breadiness. Clear amber with a two-finger head that laced well. Flavors of toasted malt, citrus and a hint of the hops with a clean finish.

On tap @ Guiseppi's Pizza in Hilton Head, SC. Another good local brew: Beautiful clear deep amber with a tight head and plenty of lacing. Sweet malts highlight the aromas with hints of citrus hops, biscuit, caramel. Taste is of lightly toasted malts with a slight bit of lemon zest and citrus hops bitter. Paired very nicely with our pizza, calzones and Italian cuisine.

Malty, orange brown color with a slight head and some lacing. Fairly nice flavor of citrus and malt, lightly hopped. Light bodied and very smooth. I did find it a bit watery though. It is not a bad brew, just not top of the mark.

Another beer from the SC area. The Thomas Creek stuff failed to deliver so I'm hoping this is better. The aroma was clearly malty sweet with bits of caramel throughout. Mouthfeel was fairly nice, smooth with a bit of creaminess to it. Flavors were sweet, with a hint of citrus hops but it also had an underlying smokiness. Very, very subtle but it's there which I found surprising. My overall impressions of this beer is that it's so far the best SC beer I've had. A decent, drinkable beer.

I've had stuff from Palmetto Brewing before, during various work-related trips to Charleston SC -- and have never been really overwelmed with their wares.
But when I was out with the guys the night before flying back to San Diego, we stopped in on one of the several roof-top bars in Downtown Charleston. And while the place was a bit full of yuppy/Euro-trash and way-too-pretty people, it did have a few drinkable beers available. Instead of getting a Sierra Nevada, I figured I'd give this beer a chance..., in keeping with my preference to Drink Local whenever practical.
The verdict? Meh, not too terrible. Kinda overally dry and acidic in the backend, which cuts down on it's "poundability" -- a rather significant hit, being that this is fighting against the hot&humid Charleston Summer weather and all.
Okay for something different, but not any better than most Amber Ales out there -- and not as interesting as the Palmetto Pale Ale, FWIW.
Charleston needs a kick in the pants, microbrewery-wise, since Palmetto just doesn't cut it IMO.

Thanks to my bro, I got some of this Charleston brew. The aroma is malty and sweet with hints of some grain and maybe some very slight caramel. The appearance is a nice orange to a rusty amber in color with a thin head on top that is off-white and somewhat creamy and diminishes leaving uneven lacing. The mouthfeel is light-bodied and smooth with nice balance and good complexity with a pallet that is smooth and coats well. The flavor is malty with some caramel coming through with some hints of nice bitter with an aftertaste that is somewhat citric and acidic with some bitter with a finish that is peculiar and malty as well as refreshing. Overall, this not a bad amber ale and is pretty good with some nice bitter grapefruit with some caramel as well. This brew is very drinkable and would be a good session beer to some extent.
