Warm and reflective copper, it is the perfect hue of our dunkel weiss and our brewhouse. Dan travelled to Germany in search of the very special Bavarian Weiss yeast that defines this bottle conditioned brew. Copper Kettle Weiss is designed in the traditional style of a dark wheat beer. Rich malt flavors are accentuated through our malt concotion mash and finally balanced with select Hallertau hops.

Pours out a light amber/light copper color with an initial 1" frothy cap. The head melted nearly immediately and the body is crystal clear. First aroma impressions are honey and apple juice with a light kick of alcohol. I swirled the last few ounces I left in the bottle and I got a murky rust color. The dustyness of the malts came on strong after the bottle swirl and the mouthfeel really improved. The crackers and fruit notes also really got kicked up a notch after the swirl. I know it’s nothing new but the beer really does improve with the dregs included in the beer.

Pours with a cloudy, amber body topped by a thick, off-white head with some lacing left behind. The flavor and aroma are subtle with sweet, malty notes and a hint of banana yeast notes. Not much else to it. Light to medium bodied and smooth.

Bottle form bockyhorsey and his wife, two fine folks from Arizona! Pour was hazy orange (lighter than expected) with a head that was carbonated but not looking stellar and robust like many a dunkelweizen true to the style. The disappointment, however, ended there, as the aroma jumped out of the bottle, rich fruity esters, a touch of cloves, and gentle caramel aspects. Flavor followed suit, nice hearty bananas, cloves, light caramel (no roast at all), finishing with a little touch of hops to keep it seemingly crisp. Mouthfeel was a touch light for a dunkel, but certainly within the normal range, very nice. Thanks, Bill and Wendy, a nice treat!

Pours a lighter brown colour with a bit of cloudyness to it. Definately hints of fruit with a delicious feel on the tongue. Nothing spectacular, but again New Glarus delivers another quality beer.

Bottle courtesy of Demcorhip: Poured a cloudy brown color ale with a nice big thick foamy head with great retention and some lacing. Aroma dominated by malt with lots of banana and some caramel malt characteristics. Taste is very malty with some great banana and some light ester notes. Body was full and definitely above average for the style with great carbonation. Great take on a style that I don’t have the chance to experience that often.

This was lighter than what i expected for a dunkel, but very tastey nonetheless. Pours a hazey, clouded orange body with a pleasent fruity aroma. Well balanced, not overly malty with a smooth crisp sweet finish.

A hazy golden/amber color with a thick, bubbly, long-lasting cream-colored head. Nose is fruity and sweet; bananas and light malt. Taste is full, fresh and complex with a fine tart fruitiness followed by faint hops; both fruit and hops in the finish. Well balanced; not too sweet at all, but also low hop bitterness. Good dunkelweizen character although maybe a little reserved for the style, without usual roasted or caramel malt flavors. Fruity tones from the Bavarian Weisse yeast predominate. Delicious!

This dunkel pours a medium orange gold color from a 12oz bottle. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is orange, caramel and sweet. A medium bodied dunkel. Malts are fruity and sweet. Lots of orange flavors with hints of banana. Nice balance. Good carbonation. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

I was surprised that New Glarus called this a Dunkel Weiss. It was not as dark as most Dunkels I have drank. It however did have its own taste. Felt "carbony" at first taste but then settle into a nice flavor, not really a "weiss" note though. Had a nice finish but left a bit of a aftertaste. But would I drink it again, most definetly.. It is a very good beer.
