Our Black Wheat arrives to relieve the bleak bore of Wisconsin's winter. Rich and chewy, this bottle-conditioned weiss is bursting with Midwestern wheat, oats, rye and finished by malted barley. This style is a rare gem even in the Black Forests of Bavaria. We brew it now as an accompaniment to meaty feasts or to sip near a roaring fire. Expect this beer to pour the deepest black body topped by an opulent head of lip-smacking foam. Roasted chocolate and toasted caramel notes brim over the top. Lavish spice aromas of clove and cinnamon are promoted naturally by the yeast we import especially for this most individual of brews.

Although not really a wheat beer fan this one is special. Deep black body with a rich head. Wonderful mouthfeel. Hopheads will be disappointed as it has a smooth roasted chocolate maltiness with less bitterness. This is a unique brew that is very drinkable on a winter day. If you want something out of the ordinary, try this beer!

Bottle from bockyhorsey, another MidWest grab by him for me. The pour was pretty deep brown-black, off-white deep rich and thick head. The aroma was coffee and roast, dark malts, some wheaty aspects, esters, no real yeasty or spicey elements. Flavor followed the dark malt, coffee, and roast elements, but picked up more on the traditional caramel, esters, and spicey (cloves) aspects of the base beer. Perhaps the roasty-est and dunkel-est of the dunkelweizens I’ve ever seen! Full body and mouthfeel, dead on to style. Thanks, Bill!

Poured from a bottle to a jet black w/ a a almond head that just clung to the edges.. Best way I can describe this beer is a stout lite with a Belgian yeast characteristic. nice beer and a unique style. very enjoyable beer.

Another gem from NG and pfoxyjohn! This nectar pours dark brown with a nice head and very nice lacing. Lots going on with the aromas - slight coffee, a bit of cocoa, sweet malts, wet wheat, toasted malts, some fruitiness - very complex nose. Big flavors too - nice malty base with ripe fruits, toasted malts, a bit of coffee and cocoa. What an exquisite beer. New Glarus never disappoints and usually exceeds my expectations. Thanks again John.

wow...i can barely tell from the look, nose, or flavor, that this is indeed a wheat beer. Definitely the biggest, chewiest wheat I've ever had, and better than any other Dunkel Weizen or any other wheat I've had to date. i'd buy this (along with a few other NG beers all the time if it were available here). Bottle conditioned, with a ton of roasted black malt in the nose and flavor, great body, super complex roasty dry coffee, chocolate, wheat, and rye in the flavor, and the rye gives it a great dry finish as well. One of their better beers.

Courtesy of pfoxyjohn. Alright, now we're getting somewhere! Pours a pitch black with a copious head of foam. Tastes of coffee and chocolate. Sweetnes from caramel and some faint flashes of sweet/sour cherries. This is nice and chewy and thick. Sweet and roasty aroma. Slight alcohol in the flavor. Lots of lacing on the glass. An exquisite beer. Very smooth! Thanks John!

It's been a while since this brew has been around. I'm glad to have finally tried it: poured a dark dark brown colour with a mahogany tint. Mildy malty characteristic which makes the beer very rich. With alcohol and some sweet candy sugar notes on the nose. Creamy on the palate, toffee and dark roasted malts round out this well balanced brew.

05.03.05 12oz thanks to MrFacto. Nearly black, but brown, muddy; frothy brown head fades. Aroma is burnt toast, bubblegum, banana, savory spice, hints of licorice and Dunkin Donuts. Sort of like a black and tan with porter and weizenbock. Flavor reminds me of that exactly. In fact, I had to read the label to see if that was the case. Flavors are mostly rich and wheaty; the roasting is light but ubiquitous. Body is lighter than it looks, fairly effy. Somewhat tart and only a bit bitter (roast) makes the finish seem muddled, lacking direction -- tart, bitter, sweet, dry, fruity, lingering roast -- nothing asserts. But everything up to the swallow is wonderful and I very much enjoyed drinking this stuff. Thanks Matt.

Murky brown body with a sizeable head. Awesome aroma. coffee and bananas. It’s breakfast in a bottle. The body is a bit of a letdown after the aroma, but still pretty good.

12 oz bottle. Poured into my Back Road Brewery standard American pint glass. Murky brown with a long standing tan head. Rich bready, chocolatey, clovey aroma. Not very assertive. Bitter chocolate wheat flavors. Very drying. Med/Full bodied. Not a fan of wheat beers, but alway up for something new.
