The beer that started it all… Red Nectar was considered a strange bird when it was first released in 1987. After all, where did a robust, handcrafted all-natural amber ale fit into the massive flock of American industrial lagers? Answer: it didn’t. So it blazed its own trail, helping set the pace for the craft brew revolution. Enjoy Red Nectar for its dazzling reddish copper hue, original flavors and caramel spice accents. accolades: 2010 Great American Beer Festival® - Gold Medal: American-Style Amber Ale 2009 California State Fair - Gold Medal 2009 LA County Fair - Silver Medal 2006 California State Fair - Gold Medal 2005 LA County Fair - Bronze Medal 2004 Great American Beer Festiva®l - Silver Medal: American Style Amber Ale style: American Amber Ale Alcohol By Volume - 5.4% Color - 22.0L (Red) IBU - 35.0 (Medium) fermentation: Fermented in 100% stainless steel with Humboldt Brewing’s original house yeast strain malts: Premium Two Row Wheat Malt Crystal 75 hops: Bittering - Chinook Late Kettle - Mt. Appearance is a red orange color with a small off white head. The aroma is citrus, cleaning solution, floral. The taste is heavy floral and citrus but imitation flavors. No malt. Some mild spices. The mouthfeel is medium and it finishes clean.

Pours out the same brown color as the glass bottle it's in. It does have a aroma of hops. The mouthfeel is a little thin for my enjoyment. The flavor is okay just nothing interesting or special.

A dark, deep amber colored beer with a two finger foamy textured light beige head rising above. Not much hang time. Settles into a medium ringlet. Profile is flora and citric hops. Add some bready malt in the taste. Medium bodied and smooth.

Review from 2002. Dark copper color, large head. Mild hops, medium malts. Mild roasted toffee like flavor. Nice malt flavor. Finish is clean and light. Aftertaste is slightly bitter, nice malt finish. Very drinkable, nice beer.

lots of flavor, malty up front, with the rather intense hops (for this style) to follow. darker than many, and quite enjoyable. one of their better ales.

Drank this straight from the bottle (I know, but I was tired) so I don't know what it looks like. Aroma was good. Mouth feel was solid, not watery, but drinkable enough to enjoy as a cool down. A good deal of hop bite, but not so much to hide the sweet finish.

A very pretty brown ale with a light tan head. Tastes and smells flowery (is "florally" a word?). This beer is uber-tasty. Malty aftertaste. Goes down a little too smoothly and feels nice (not chewy at all, but not exactly watery, either). Little bit of a hoppy bite...just enough to stop the malts from being too sweet.

Bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy amber color with a nice, off-white head. Nice lacing. Sweet, fruity aroma. Nice mouthfeel. Taste is a sweet caramel flavor with a hint of fruit. Sweet malty aftertaste. Good beer, but definitely not a session beer for my tastes.

Pours to a slightly cloudy copper color with a nice almond colored head bout 1/4 inch thick. Has a nice hop flavor with a nice mild citrus flavor to it. This is the kind of Ale that you could drink all night if you wanted. Nice blend of hops and malt that clean and refreshing. Nice beer.

Drinks well and is refreshing with a nice appetizing bitter in the end. Lightly spicy Hops come through after all is said and done and hang out a bit. This eventually balances nicely the roasted cane sugar sweet malt..........Also fruit flavors of grapefruit. Aroma is nice-- snappy and a bit floral, cherry and woody sweet. A crisp brick red-amber color here, with a dissapating off white head. Mouthfeel is crisp with good carbonation, but a touch watery to finish. Nice with a meal.
