Febr. 2013: Shared 341 ml bottle, ABV is 5%. Copper colour, moderate white head. Strong perfumed aroma, candy, toffee, caramel and flowers. Distinct malty flavour with notes of caramel, moderate hops in the finish. Quite nice to drink.

The one thing about McAuslan you can always count on is that they make very good beer. The pale ale is no exception. A light amber pour, slight haze, and a long lasting white cap provide the eye candy. Cereal malts and caramel are present in the aroma along with notes of light spice and earthy hops. Flavour is a nice balance between the mild sweetness of the malt, and the light bitter finish provided by the hops.

Pours a pale amber colour with a nice thick creamy head. Nice lacing. Good balance of hops and malts in aroma. Flavours are pretty much the same as aromas, with a bit of grainy taste and thick maltiness. Sort of spicy mouthfeel and some tingling on the palate. Not bad, nothing outstanding for a pale.

A deep amber colored beer with a big frothy textured light beige head. There was some retention. A thick foamy ringlet is left. The nose is caramelized fruitiness. Fruity, grassy tasting. Effervescent and crisp.

pours a crisp clean amber color with a big frothy off-white head, that retains really well and coats the glass with lacing. The aroma is 0f a vibrant banana as I was pouring, but the actual aroma is quite mild overall after it settles. Mainly barley malt upfront, light fruity aromatics wade in the background, with peaches, apricots, and bananas. The malt profile is more doughy bread and butter than the usual caramel malt. Finishes with just the tiniest hint of grassy hops and honey. The taste opens up with a big barley malt presence then moves to a maltier feel, with buttery bread providing much of the flavor, and honey doing the sweetening rather than just caramel malt. As it finishes a mixture of both pungent fruitiness and grassy hoppiness envelop the back of the palate. The mouthfeel has medium carbonation with a medium bodied feel.

341 ml capped bottle. Poured a clear dark amber-chesnut coloured A.P.A. with a two fingers beige creamy pillowy foamy head that had a very long retention and tons of micro bubbles. Soft carbonation. Great lacing. The aroma is faint caramel malts, mild fruity tones, grapefruits, apricots, citrus, weak hops. The flavour is caramel malts and a nice hoppy bitterness. The mouthfeel is creamy, light syrupy and smooth. This light to medium bodied A.P.A. has a dry slight bitter finish. A very easy drinkable A.P.A., on the soft way and very pleasant.

This was by far the least enjoyable beer from McAuslan. Seemed a bit skunky, but not just the one case, another case a month later too. Sweet start, slightly dry/bitter lager like finish. Seems to be some kind of germmannic czech hop in here doing a grassy herby reisin thing. Highly drinkable but not what I was even romotely expecting. Soon I may learn to move past so strong expectations and own my feelings allowing me to like this beer more, but also maybe not...

Poured a beautiful amber colour, ever so slightly cloudy--creamy white head, with nice lacing left behind. I didn't notice anything distinctive in the aroma; felt nice in the mouth, a bit bitter in the after taste. Very warming.

I tried this beer on October 1, 2010 at "Smokeless Joe's" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a translucent copper colour with a this white head that left plenty of lacing. The aroma was caramel malt, floral hops, and grain. The mouthfeel was medoim bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was grainy malt, caramel, and hops. -

Got this in trade courtesy of korguy123. 341 ML into a standard pint glass. Poured a golden amber with a two-finger head which dissapted rapidly to a coating. Nose has some floral elements up front, as well as some citrus, caramel and biscuit. Taste is slightly bitter with notes of coriander and orange, held up by the biscuity malt. There are some citrus hops but they aren’t forward. Finish is slightly bitter and sticky. Carbonation is certainly visible but not felt. Mouthfeel is on the light side of medium. A decent APA but not my favorite style, for sure.
