In his 80-plus years, brewery patriarch "Mac" MacTarnahan won more than 50 World Master gold medals in wrestling, steeplechase and distance running. So it's no surprise that his Amber Ale - in its debut year - captured a coveted gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival. MacTarnahan's Amber ale is dry-hopped with fresh Cascade hops from the great Northwest. That's what gives Mac's its crisp, complex flavor. When beer lovers say "Gimmee a Mac's!" it's understood they want a great-tasting, smooth-drinking ale. MacTarnahan’s is a deep copper-hued Amber Ale balanced with fresh Cascade hops from the great Northwest.

Bottled (thanks Kalevi Kurronen!). Amber colour, not much head. Aroma is wood, some sourness as well as mild notes of grains. Flavour is sour wood, some grains, mild notes of some grass.

This was a very good Amber. Not overly spicy or overly hopped. Nice color, good aroma. Flavor at first take seems kinda average, but after a bit, its actually above average, just not overly flamboyant.

A fine amber ale this is. Pours a genuine color, aroma of sweet and bitter beer, more on the sweet side i would say. For 2 50 a bomber you can't go wrong here. A good deal, and a fine beer.

This is a good amber ale. Poors a pleasing head and good lacing. Taste of hops and malts. I have passed by this one many times. Now I'm glad I have tried it.And will again. Its always good to know that another ale out there is on your to drink list

Pours a clear amber with a nice head and ample lacing. Good carbonation. Aromas of Cascade hops with a slightly toasted sweet malt. Taste is smooth and balanced with a surprising amount of hops for an amber, countered with a very nice slightly sweet malty backbone. A nice amber.

this was a big surprise, i was expecting a decent beer and got a truly solid offering... quite a bite of hops in this one ... dark syrup colour .. good good stuff ... the hop backbone on this is nice.. i highly recommend this one, seems similar to sierra nevada pale ale..

Mac's always brews really good beer and they did it again. Dark copper in color with hints of malt. Smells sweet with a slight chocolaty smell. The flavor is robust and smooth. Great beer and not to expensive

Clear, amber body with an off-white head. Sparce lacing, but it was certainly better than none at all. Hoppy aroma at first, but malty notes appeared once the head receded. The flavor was a pretty good balance of hops and malts (the hops more prevalent), and there was a pleasant, bitter aftertaste. Lively carbonation, but the overall weight seems a tad on the lighter side. In general, this is a fine amber ale, but it comes across as merely "standard."

Nice beer. Poured a slightly cloudy golden color with a nice head. Had a nice malty aroma with a good touch of hops. Flavor consisted of caramel maltiness and a little hops. Its hard to detect the hops since I just finished a Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Ale, but they're there, trust me.
