Inspired by the energy and audacity of the fixed gear courier, Lakefront Brewery ran smack into this arresting creation. Fixed Gear is a big, bold American red ale. It pours a glaring crimson tone with a rocky white head and a brilliant floral-citrus aroma, thanks to an aggressive dry hopping. Its immodest, malty spine and intrepid caramel flavors blow in via gratuitous amounts of 2-row pale and dark caramel malts. A balanced citrus bite comes from Chinook and Cascade hops followed shortly by mild, fruity esters from the ale yeast. Weighing in at a mean 6.5% ABV and 34 IBU's, this one's got an attitude.

I had this beer at the Spy House in Milwaukee. Another really nice beer from Lakefront. This is a pretty good amber beer. Nice color and an easy drinkable ale. Color looked good, malty but not over bearing.

Nice true amber/copper pour, medium to short white head, some lacing. Ample earthy and piney hops and caramel malts nose and palate, easy to drink and amply hopped with a nice linger. Nice Amber.

A deep amber colored beer with a big billowy white head rising about. Great hangtime on this one. Settles eventually into a thick ringlet. The nose and palate have hops up front (citric and floral) and balanced with a caramel sweetness. Light-medium bodiedand smooth. Pretty good.

Comes out of the bottle a reddish mahogany with a thick, frothy and rather persistent pale beige head. Aroma is not strong, but is spicy and hoppy and inviting. Flavor exceeds the wan aroma, being hoppy but not bitter, with nutty and malty undertones and spicy and horehound hints. Lively texture is quite tingly and fizzy, leaving a nice edgy and slightly hoppy finish.

It pours a muddy dark amber & copper with a thick light-tan head and copious lacing. An aroma of caramelized malts, hops, pine, grapefruit, bread, mango, and light spices. The mouthfeel is relatively smooth, although thin. Flavors of caramel malts, hops, grapefruit, bread, mango, and spices. It's flavorful, but what is it? an amber? or an IPA?

Sampled on 8/28/2010. This Amber Ale pours a medium to dark copper color from a 22oz bottle. Medium to large sized beige foamy head, with decent retention and nice lacing. The aroma is bready, caramel, hoppy and sweet. A medium bodied American Strong/Amber/Imperial Red Ale. The malts are bready, cereal, fruity and semi-sweet. The hops are grapefruity and citrusy. Nice carbonation. Good balance. Nice smooth taste. A big bold amber/red ale. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

On tap yesterday at the Old Fashioned: Pours a dark copper colour with a decent sized head. Aroma is biscuity. Taste is toasty and well balanced. Lots of fruit midpalate, like a fruit salad. But its hard to ignore the breadiness. Just saw these in bottles the other day, and I think i might pick some up! Re-rate 13/4/10: Man I don't remember having this , but it was only a week and a half ago. holy smokes. I thought it was a different one. Anyway, taste is great, and im bumping it up a bit. Super heady bier, hearty and hoppy, and alcohol is easily concealed.
