Once poured, you no longer know that this is a Molbatts product. It's not clear, and it's not gold. That said, the aroma and flavour are both watered down when compared to their British and craft counterparts.

Poured medium to dark browm with a tan head and a good coating of lacing on the glass The mouth feel was thin for a porter. It was more like their standard lager. The taste was swwet with a hint or maple or brown sugar.

This beer poured with a dark brown body showing burgandy highlights and topped off with a small khaki head leving thin patchy lace down the glass. The aroma is light roasty malts with a strong metallic tone. The mouthfeel is light bodied, very thin for the style. The flavor is bland with coffee, dark fruit and metallic flavors coming through.

An average beer, nothing close to craft porters. It was dark and very sweet tasting, but I couldn't pick up any strong notes other than malt. I'll try the red lager next.

I remember having this back in the 50s and 60s, and saw it recently for the first time since. The newer version is not as strong as the older version (6.1% in the late 60s). It pours dark, the aroma is roasted malt, chocolate. The flavour is slightly sweet with a bitter finish, just as good as I remember it.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 11.5oz bottle into a pint glass. Appearance: The head is of average size, about one inch thick and it is tan in color. It fades out nearly as fast as it built up, leaving nothing on top and no lacing on the glass. The body is a very dark brown with deep crimson highlights. Smell: Its aroma is very vague and light. There is just a very faint sweet malt with some very light metallic notes. Taste/Mouth feel: The flavor has a very bland, somewhat bready malt with some light buttery notes and light metallic/grassy hops. The finish is quick and fairly clean with a slight buttery/mineraly fade. The body and texture are very light and watery with an almost flat carbonation. Notes: I cant believe that you could brew a beer with this much depth in color yet be so thin on the flavor and body!!!

LABATS PORTER S6L4F3T6013 My twist off bottle label says John Labatt Signature Porter. Nice malty or carob aroma. Impressive pour for a cheap mysterious beer. Very dark with an initially creamy head which goes almost rocky after the pour! Some hints of alky but overall the taste is well behaved and friendly. Roasty porter with a slight labats background. Good carbonation for a porter. Not bad, perhaps there is some choco in the flavor too. A tad thin for a porter, just barely. Is not offensive, yet retains a nice dark beer attribute. Finish reminds me of many dark American lagers, well behaved, courteous and gentlemanlike with southern manners.

Bottle from trade. I cut my teeth on this brew in the 70s revisiting it after pouring oceans of craft and Brit porter over my tongue is ,as with all your teen beers, always a letdown. This was a sweet beer with little roast to it, thin mouth and fast finish with a near cloying after taste ...the product of molasses and some brewers caramel...not a real porter in any sense.

Poured a pitch-black color ale with very little head or carbonation. Aroma is quite sweet with some trace of chocolate also noticeable. Taste is quite enjoyable at first with sweet chocolate being easily detectable. The only problem here is that there is nothing else thereafter: no bitterness or roastiness. Also, after a couple of sip, the sweetness becomes overwhelming, a bit too much of artificial flavour I believe. Anyway, better then most products Labatt brews.
