The distinct roasted & chocolate notes are well balanced by a slight bitterness

Taps rich coffee with a Guinness-ish buff head. Aroma features roast malt, molasses, coffee and subtle toffee notes. Flavor gives roast malt, coffee, molasses and toffee. Texture offers decent body and peppy fizz. Bold as pig iron.

Good beer not amazing. Poured dark brown with tan head. Basic aroma chocolate and roast. Flavor was much the same. Just an average porter though. Need a little something special in there.

I had the Iron Hill Pig Iron Porter on tap at the Newark, DE location. (New Ark for those from Jersey). Anyway this was a very basic porter. It poured a black colored body with a tan head. It had a roasted coffee flavor with a slight bite in the finish. Overall solid.

A pretty standard porter. A brownish black appearance with some coffee, caramel, toffee, and chocolate. This one is more on the bitter side. Pretty good.

I'm a big porter guy. This is a good beer. I'd definitely buy it again if I'm in Iron Hill...but it's really not outstanding. I like a Porter to have a little more to it than just a chocolatey/coffee/roasted malt flavor. Throw something else in to make it interesting. This didn't have any of that. Good, but nothing to make it stand out above dozens of other "good" porters.

I had this fresh at the brewery in West Chester, PA. This has won numerous awards in the Philadelphia area. It was all right but not outstanding to win all those awards.

2005 Update on Cask: Even richer aromas and flavors with a creaminess that was enjoyable. Bumped the aroma, mouthfeel and overall each up one. Cherries disappeared on cask. Pours a dark brown color, short of black, though. Nice medium body that isn't too thick. Head is tan and substantial and the lacing outstanding. Flavor is initially coffee, followed by some cherries and a smooth burnt and dry after taste. Not a bad beer.

Media, PA... Poured a dark reddish brown color with a small tan head, but really no lacing. Aroma of chocolate, and roasted malt and coffee. Roasted coffee taste also included some chocolate cream and a hint of smoke.

I am lucky enough to have just moved to within walking distance of the Iron Hill brewpub in Media, PA. Unfortunately, the only beer I have tried was this porter (since it was lunch break during work) and it was good. I will have to try it again, along with their other brews, but it seemed well made with a roasty, chocolatey flavor and a bit of bitterness.
