The character and complexity of Harpoon Octoberfest comes from the malt and hops. When looking at a freshly poured Harpoon Octoberfest, you will notice the garnet-red color with a firm, creamy head. The beer’s color is from a blend of Munich, chocolate, and pale malt. The thick head results in part from wheat malt added to the grist. The hop aroma of this beer is not overpowering but it is present. Tettnang hops add a subtle spice nose that blends with the malt character. This beer is full-bodied, smooth, and malty. Willamettehops are used to provide a gentle bitterness and to balance any residual sweetness present from the malt. The finish is soft and malty with a mild bitterness.

Comes out of the tap a dark clear mahogany with a thick pale wheat head. Aroma has strong tones of cloves and horehound. Malty flavor has notes of horehound, cloves and malt with an earthy undertone and a hint of caramel. Smooth texture has good body and fizz, if not amazing of either. A decent and enjoyable Oktoberfest. Prozit!

Very little nose, some malt and a wee bit of ripe fruit. Short lasting off white head with some lace sits atop a copper body. Mouth a bit watery, carbonation a bit fizzy. Has the idea of a Marzen but somehow is so much less in all respects, some malt but also tastes a bit grainy, tastes like a good Marzen watered down.

This is average or just above from the style. Definitely hits the spot when the mood is right. Mic medium bodied blend of bread, caramel, nuts, spice, and a hint of hops.

Tried a few different Oktoberfests this season, and although this didn't stand up to my favorite (Samuel Adams)...it was solid for what it is. The balance isn't quite there, as the background is the lagery Harpoon beer which is nothing special to me. But, there are some nice caramel flavors and spice in there. Also has a slight creamy texture to the mouthfeel. A slightly above average brew.

A deep amber colored beer with a big creamy textured off white head. Not much time but nice spotty film on the sides and a thin ringlet. Sweet malt in the nose. That malt is in the tasting balanced nicely by a grassiness. Smooth, medium bodied drink. Nice Marzen.

Nice clear amber pour with little head and some lacing. Some slightly toasted malts and sweetness in the aromas. Same for the taste with a decent maltiness and some hops present. Ok.

A completely average, although very tasty, Octoberfest. While everything about this beer is perfectly acceptable, no one characteristic stands out and distinguishes itself from any other. A nice drink.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a dimpled mug. Appearance: It has a thick and foamy beige head over a dark orange amber colored body with good clarity. The head has good retention and slowly fades to thin covering leaving nice slick lacing that slides down the glass as I sip. Smell: Its aroma is creamy sweet and malty with some toasted caramel notes and mild leafy hops. Taste/Mouth feel: The flavor has wonderful toasted notes with sweet creamy caramel and mild spicy/leafy hops. Hop bitterness is mild throughout but picks in the finish and fades off the tongue slowly. It has a smooth and creamy texture that is just slightly sick with good balanced carbonation and a solid medium to full body. Notes: Well done! This is a great Oktoberfest/Amber Ale brewed with Ale yeast instead of traditional Lager yeast.

Bottled at SBWF. Clear pale amber with a low white foma. Clean aroma of caramel and fudge with notes of nutmeg. Medium-bodied. Clean flavour of caramel, toasted malts, nuts and butterscotch. Nutty finish with notes of caramel and nutmeg.
