A traditional Oktoberfest bier from Surly? Nein! If you want one of those, grab your passport and head over to Munchen (bring us back some pretzels.) Our Fest inspired beer is brewed with imported malted barley, rye, and a German lager yeast strain. We hop this beer with a single variety... and then we dry hop it. A single hop, dry hopped, rye lager bier? Ja!

Clear orange, thick smooth off-white lasting lacing foam. Hoppy aroma with strong floral, grass notes. Quite nice taste too. Perfect draft. (Chicago 201510)

Pours a bronze color. smell is hoppy, piney. Taste is smooth, rye, hops, flavorfull abd easy drinking. Overall another fine beer from Surly, damn I wish they distributed here.

This was not my cup of tea (or stein of Oktoberfest as you will). While it certainly looked inviting, the aroma and the taste were definitely not in the same vein as a German style Oktoberfest.

I really like the folks at Surly. This beer is nice and burnt gold, some haze, and a little head. The aroma is amazing, Cascade maybe? Very lively anyway. The flavor is not as hoppy as you would think after the smell, its a nice mild hop presence and a decent malt base. Just great balance here, wish they made this all year round! This is not a true to style oktoberfest, but if you like beer you will still appreciate it.

Home state brew, had to try it. I was not disappointed in the least. This beer is great! Slightly metallic aroma to it but none in the taste. Massive bubbly head. Slightly dry but full flavored. Nice amount of carbonation. I am going to pick up some of there other brews and enjoy them. Excellent brew from a little known brewery. Welcome in my stein any day.

Had this last night, courtesy of caddylac: What a great beer! My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Pours a slightly hazed reddish amber. Aroam is full and malty, nice touch of hops and spices. Taste is solid. Absolutely generous in every marzen aspect. I can't find the words, but believe me, this beer kicked ass! Thanks Andy!

From caddylac via OktoberPfist 2010, nice surprise too. Pours a clean amber with a nice head and ample lacing throughout. Aromas of toasted and sweet malts, caramel, hops, fruit and a kiss of rye bread. Taste is not a bit shy - malty, slightly sweet, a touch of fruit. Nice bite for an O'Fest with the rye coming through a little with the hops leaving a nice slight bitter linger. Big Thanks to Andy for this Surly goodness.

Oktoberfest in a can. A nice idea. Again, I;m not sure if the dry hopping has anything to do with it, but I didn't find this beer as fruity or as refreshing as a true German Marzen. Good colour, but the aroma and flavour were thin for my money.

Very excited to try this and definitely not disappointed. Pours copper with creamy head. Aroma is excellent--some spiciness and rye to go along with the grassy, hoppyness. Taste is similar; definite hop bitterness but still the rye/spiciness remains. A bold interpretation of the style that still retains Surly's signature hop kick.
