This ale is the first brewed in Kansas since pioneering days. The name "Ad Astra comes from the Kansas State Motto - Ad Astra per Aspera, Latin words meaning "To the Stars through Difficulties". We've blended Pale, Caramel, and Munich malts for a rich amber beer. The hops balance this malty sweetness, and we've chosen Northern brewer and Fuggles hops for their flavor.

Pours deep almost dark amber with a faint head and decent lacing. Nothing stellar or stand-out here, but a pretty decent amber beer. Pepper spicy and citrus with a floral nose.

so sleepy.. Pours out a dark gold, good foam, decent lacing .. . light malts, cereal, and bread .. . medium mouthfeel .. . pretty simple but doesn't offend .. . Fame was like a drug. But what was even more like a drug were the drugs.

Given to me from Dansting, Caddylac, TimmyK and the crew from Kansas- Thanks boys!! Pours a dark brown colour with a very small head. Aroma is nice, plenty of nutty character, some caramel and roasted malt. Flavour was incredible smooth and biscuity. Thought it might be a heavier amber first, but now by the description it makes sense that it’s more of an Alt. Rich and balanced, soft little hop finish. Nice beer!

Sampled on draft while hanging out with Caddylac at his local dive (that happens to have a few good taps). Appears to be a N. German alt. Quite fruity in the aroma. Bready, with some caramel and roasted malt in a slightly sweet flavor. I like the hoppier alts, but this is a great session beer.

On tap at Barley's with Dansting, TimmyK, and Caddy. Pours a deep copper color with a weak initial head and lacing (altbiers should be easy to pour pretty). The aroma was caramel, light roast, which caught me off guard. Flavor was caramel, light roasted malts, which yielded some faint coffee and smoke. Only the second beer, so my buds couldn't have been off, could they? But, this was not classic altbier-like, though. Even the alcohol was a tad bit hot for a plain old alt. Oh well, the Ohio State-Xavier ball game was quite fun to watch while hanging with these guys. Cheers to my Kansas pals.

Nice dark amber color with an ok head and good lacing. very malty and a bit too hoppy for my flavor. I am not an ale fan and this does not change my opinion.

Pours a clear brown with an off white head. Aroma of caramel with a slight hoppiness. Flavor is sweet with a floral presense. Great beer that I get whenever I can.

Re-Rate: I have a keg at my home now. Fresher than before. Bumped the aroma, flavor, and overall up 1 point. This is a much better product than is served at Old Chicago. As Astra is a pretty good session beer. Not a lot there to overwhelm, but enough to make it interesting. Dark red to brown in color, served with no head. Aromas of backed goods, and some brown sugar. Light sweet toasted flavor with decent bitterness. Light inthe body.

Samples at the brewpub. Fairly dark amber coloring with a small head and tons of lacing. The Aroma is a little bit of orange peel and some pepper spice. The taste is oranges and a little bit of fresh bread. Solid grapefruit comes out at the end.
