Erdinger Weissbier "dark" is a rich and smooth wheat beer specialty from Erdinger Weissbrau. It owes its full-bodied flavor to the fine hops and dark malt used in its production. The dark beer sprcialty is brewed according to an age old recipe. Its spicy flavor also results from the increased proportion (about 13%) of original wort. Nonetheless, at 5.6%, it doesn't contain much more alcohol then Erdinger Weissbier "with fine yeast". Like all Erdinger wheat beers, this dark variety also acquires its typical flavor from maturing in the bottle. Years of brewing experience coupled with state-of-the art technology guarantee its excellent quality.

(Draught) Good stuff - try it with a solid German meal! Rerate: I still think this is an excellent brew, but was too generous with the points the first time. Rerate bottle: Not as good as draught, but still good, even without a meal! - but I maintain that it's the perfect accompaniment with German pork dishes. Great lasting head, cloudy dark brown colour, moderate aroma and flavour of spices and lightly roasted malts. The guys who think it tastes like flat Coke should probably stick to Coke.

Drank this one from a tap. It was a nice dark brown color. The aroma was of coffee but there was no taste of it. Instead there was more of a nut taste with wheat.

Dunkelweizens when well made can be a favourite. Fortunately, Erdinger makes a good one. A dark brown pour, solid in colour, with a light brown creamy head. Aroma is a mix of roasted malt, chocolate, wheat, and bubblegum. The flavour is chocolate, wheat, and spices. A very good beer.

In a nice plastic cup (!) at the Vancouver German Christmas Market. Creamy beige head over a dark copper pour, with sufficient carbonation. Nice aroma, wheaty, but more so with spices and malt. Medium bodied. Pleasing flavour, malt and maybe dark fruit, plus some spiciness. A very good Dunkel, I think.

Bottle from Oktoberfest @ Bearden Beer Market. Thin brown pour, decent light tan head, some lacing. Sweet malty aroma, some very ripe bananas and fruits, hint of molasses and toastiness. Nice flavor: some bananas and breadiness, toasted malts, light molasses and honey sweetness, then underlying earthy hops that cut the sweetness and yeasts. Overall a very nice beer and good change of pace form all of the Oktoberfests that I drank with these. Prost!

Real dark brown color with brownish thick lasting foam head, lacing to glass. Aroma is hoppy and spicy. Real rich beer with good hop taste and somewhat sweetness in distance. Palate is dry but weak in taste. (Jever 201207)

Pours an opaque dark brown with a medium sized foamy dark khaki head that settles to a thin cap on top with foamy swaths of lace form around the glass. The aroma is of wheat, caramel, and some yeast aromas. The taste is of wheat and caramel mainly with some slight yeast flavors. The mouthfeel has a good level of carbonation with a crisp and medium bodied. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is easy drinking.

I'm more of a dunkel fan versus a light hef. This is unfiltered, murky dark brown appearance. Has that wheaty, banana flavor, but with some caramel and maybe little chocolate malt to offset. Comparing it to some of the others in that region like Ayinger, both the light and dark in this style seems a few points lower in the rating. Still a good import, just not something I would actively seek out again.

Erdingers’s dunkles weizen was my personal brew of choice while living in Germany for seven years. I always had a rack on the back porch. It has a creamy consistency, sweat tasting almost chocolate like with a hint nutmeg.

My first dunkel weizen so I didn't knew what to expect. Colour is dark and murky, with a firm dark beige head that last pretty long. Little aroma, with hints of coffee and roasted malts. Flavour is malty with hints of cinnamon and a background idea of barbeque? The mouthfeel is a bit watery and the flavours don't last long. I do think this will go extremely well with a barbeque. Roasted meat and a dunkel weizen.. bring it on.
