Pours with a nice dense tan / brown head. Black color with a bit of brown to it. A very clear beer with a deep brown color when held up to the light. Smells of roasted grains with a bit of acidic aroma at first. As one smells it again notes of chocolate become evident and then become the predominant aroma as the beer warms up in the glass. There is a nice roast character, bits of coffee and chocolate in the finish. When the beer has left your mouth it leaves one with the sense of coffee. There is a bit of bitterness in the finish, perhaps a bit more than your usual porter, the bitterness mixes well with the roasted flavors. Fairly light bodied but still manages to coat one mouth.

Head is fizzy like Scottish but not quite as much. Chocolate milk, burnt grain and smoke flavor. Actually nice usage of smoked malt by keeping it subtle. Flavor is strong but still a bit thin.

This is some good stuff. After the hefeweizen I had a few months ago I wasn't really enthusiastic to see Bert Grant products in the beer club shipment, but this one restored my faith in the brewery. Wasn't exactly perfect, but close enough to it to be very enjoyable. There is some sweetness, some smoke, and some coffee. There are definitely more porters that are worse than there are that are better.

Deep black color, small head. Intense chocolate aroma. A medium bodied porter. Roasted chocolate malts give way to a slightly smoky flavor. Nice taste but perhaps a little sweet. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet, with a lingering chocolaty aftertaste.

Decent head. I liked the subtle flavors of coffee and smoke. Very smooth. Pours very dark. Easy to drink quickly.

Pretty good porter but rather one dimensional. Nice nutty chocolate aroma. The flavor was lacking in depth and complexity - body was a bit lacking as well.

Nice black body with a thin dark tan head and a nice lacing. Roasted malt, coffee and a little chocolate flavor and the aroma is that of coffee Wonderful porter, the best that I've had and at a good price!

Dark in color. Roasty flavor and aroma. More mild in flavor than one would be used to for a porter. Not bad. Caramel, amber malt. Gentle hop character. Ok.

A rich, complex porter brewed with 5 distinct barley malts" Nice looking porter very dark brown almost stout like ..nice tan head though it doesnt hang around. I liked the coffee/dark chocolate aroma of this beer very pleasant. mmm taste is quite complex when you get over the thin mouthfeel..vanilla, black coffee, toffees..slight fruitiness, and a little bit of the promised peat..quite good. the mouthfeel is what lets this beer down..very thin and a tad too carbonated. A nice quaffable porter..low in alcohol and easy to drink..though if Grants can improve the "thiness" this would be a GOOD porter instead of "nice

Pours a dark chocolate brown with a tan head. Aroma is predominantly coffee. Flavor is a complex blend of malts with chocolate dominating. A good porter.
