now this one's smooth, fuller bodied than AV gives itself credit for. one of the better american porters i've tried. does everything right, just not spectacular enough for all 9's & 10's.

Found this bottle at the BevMo in Pleasanton/Dublin. Hadn't seen it before anywhere else, and I've always enjoyed most AV stuff. This beer pours out a deep black body with ruby red/brown edges and a large rocky tan head. Aromas are big roasted malts, chocolate, black walnuts and coffee. Flavor wasn't quite as assertive as the aroma, but still solid. Chocolate and coffee are the main attraction with some sublte nut bitterness on the end. A fairly straightforward, simple kind of porter but it succeeds on that front. Easy to drink and tasty. Nice beer!

This brew pours a dark chocolate brown, borderline black with a tan head. Pretty large. Aromas of coffee and tree bark. Taste of burned coffee and almonds, roasted marshmallows and hersheys chocolate. As good as it tasted, the mouthfeel was a little light then what i look for in a porter, and the nose a bit weak as well.

Out of control pour! Took nearly five minutes to get this bomber into two pint glasses. Talk about a pillowy head. Absolutely beautiful with lacing all over the glass as well. Aroma was soapy aroma. Dark color and really smooth mouthfeel. Roasy and sweet with very little bitterness. Perhaps a tad thin. Good beer, though.

STOP becarful on the pour the head on this one is crazy. Poured a dark brown and the head was awful way to big even on a gentle pour. Aroma was of coffee some roated chocolate. Flavor was the same and was nutty. Okay beer.

Poured a dark brown color with some red edges and an annoying large and fluffy enormous head. I mean, really. C'mon, I literally filled my pint glass with 1cm of beer and the rest of bubbly head. The head was so large it looked kinda phoney and overly done. The aroma was coffee, chocolate, some roastedness. The flavor was all of that with some cherry and nut type flavors. Mouthfeel was moderate, not overly thick. Decent, not great.

Deep dark brew.Huge tan head with a slight burnt aroma. Some coffee notes with a little chocolate coming through. Not as much body as its appearance would have you think.Decent beer though.Surprised it only has three ratings since it's everywhere in California.
