The brew is a dark brown/black colour, and delivers an aroma of roasted malt tones. With five different varieties of superior hops and six malts, the new Hophead Black IPA recipe brings out a malt forward taste with a lingering hop bitterness.

Very dark brown pour with a dense tan head which retains well. Excellent lacing. Aroma of roasted malts chocolate and burnt wood although all mild. Roasted malt flavours. Dark chocolate and slightly smokey. Nice hop finish which seemed to come through towards the end. Full silky mouthfeel. Rich flavoured beer. Really enjoyed.

In the new "Hop Pack". A reasonalbly good CDA from close to home. Pale in comparison to the double IPA of the same percentage in the pack. There is a faint smell of coffee beans before being brewed. Some malt, some hops, really a blurry beer, generic I guess. Its not worth seeking but I will drink again.

Nice thick light brown head. Very dark appearance, blackish. Pretty strong aroma of malts, wheats, and vanilla. Roasted malts, caramel, chocolate and coffee round out the flavours. Hops are not strong for me in this one, just slightly. Still pretty good.

Purchased at the LCBO in a single bomber, written "Limited Edition" on the front. Pours a very dark brown with ruby highlights. Beige frothy head that stays a long time and creates soapy lacing. Roasted malt aromas with notes of nuts, chocolate and caramel. Smooth creamy mouthfeel with no burning at all. Nice bitterness with the hop finally showing in the taste. Well-balanced with the roasted malt, molasses and nutty finish. So, pretty good brew where is feels like a stout at first, but when tasted, that is where the hop shows up to make this one a Black IPA.

Part of the 2012 Tree Brewing feature at the LCBO. The beer pours a coca-cola black colour with a half inch tan coloured head. The aroma is roasted malt, weak citrusy hops, and coffee. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavour is roasted coffee grains, decent citrusy hops, although no strong grapefruit presence. Still, an excellent beer -

Bomber - pours a deep blackunfiltered ale in the glass with a decent tight-pored tan cap. Aroma is pleasant - chocolate malts, some roastiness, nutty, lightly sweet and earthy. Although there is plenty of hop balance this is a malt pronounced flavor profile - rounded rich mouth feel, plenty of big chewy chocolate malts, complimentary hop bittering, dry finish. A decent malt forward rendition of the cascadian dark style. Good stuff.

In a bomber. Three fingers of creamy tan head over an solid black body. Faint aroma, barely able to sense malt and hops. Pretty good mouthfeel, robust and smooth. Flavour not terrific, in fact rather bland. Malt and hops in small amounts. Very malty at the finish, yet not sweet. Not particularly good, and certainly not worth eight bucks.
