The Duck-Rabbit Milk Stout is a traditional full-bodied stout brewed with lactose (milk sugar). The subtle sweetness imparted by the lactose balances the sharpness of the highly roasted grains which give this delicious beer its black color.

First sample from newly distributed NC beer. About what I expected. Dark black appearance with not much mocha head. Creamy low carbonation feel. Flavors of chocolate malt, lactose, coffee, a little bitter/burnt sugar. Nothing super-special, but good and solid. I only sampled a single for now, but this is one I could grab a 6'er of.

Pours out very black but not 100% because light beam shines through. The aroma is all coffee. The mouthfeel is pretty good but not exactly thick. The taste is all coffee and a little bitter not as smooth as other milk stouts but still a very fine beer.

Ebony blackness in color with a large frothy textured light tan head rising above. There's decent hang time on this one. A moderate ringlet and very light film are left. Light nose of toastiness. Some coffee, toffee and roasted malt in the tasting. Nice light bitterness and dry characteristics.

Dark brown with a creamy light brown head. Tons of roasted malt aroma with a bit of chocolate and vanilla. Flavor is smooth, roasty, with a pleasant sweetness, without being too sweet.

This beer can really vary from either batch to batch or bottle verses tap, but I think it does not age well and taps need to be clean. I mostly have good experiences with this brew. At its best it's smooth for a stout, and has that milk sugar creaminess with the usaul coffee, cocoa overtones and a slight fruitiness. Not much lasting head, which sometimes can be the state of the glass reacting with the beer. At its worst, it can have a sourness, like lactic acid that I have found unpleasant. I will continue to give it a go however, based on many past good expeiences.

Been cellaring this thing for nearly 2.5 years-- bottle dated 5/2010. I honestly forgot I had it. Black with a tall, rocky tan head. Drops roll down the side of this head, it's so dense. The cap seems to last forever. Smells astonishingly like coffee liqueur, Kahlua in particular, and deliciously aromatic pipe tobacco (apropos to its home state). The aroma of this beer me want to either pour it on vanilla ice cream or smoke it. And speaking of vanilla, that's definitely the primary flavor in this sweet & smokey brew. I agree with kinger about the ashy dimension, but I don't feel it detracts. I don't taste the alcohol. I did expect this to be heavier and stickier, but it's not (that can be a good thing if you want food with it). Tiny bubbles, not too sharp, as I like it. Solid, if uncomplicated. Very drinkable and definitely want to have this again. Could also be a good gateway beer for some folks.

I picked this beer up from the Wine Gourmet in Roanoke. This beer was uber sweet and the lactose was right up front and in your face. I thought it was a tad thin for my liking though. That being said I look forward to trying all of these beers.

Dark brown body, 1/3" tan head that sticks around and leaves heavy lacing. Medium bodied and slightly creamy with a metallic tinge. Heavy on the roast malt with some chocolate and vanilla. Aftertaste is a bit ashy. Very solid all around, but I was hoping for more depth.

Who would have thought that an optical illusion would give rise to the name of a brewery, and a brewery that turns out good beer. This is a dark brown beer with a creamy brown cap. Lots of roasted malt in the aroma with hints of chocolate and vanilla. Flavour is smooth, roasty, with a nice sweetness.
