This golden strong lager (Festbier) is brewed for the Oktoberfest in Munich. It is not the same as the darker Ur-Märzen sold as Oktoberfest in the US and elsewhere.

(500 ml bottle, European version, bought in Denmark). Pale golden colour, like a pils. Good to moderate head. Pleasant fruity aroma. Flavour is smooth, mellow and clean, hops are subdued. Easy drinking. Nice beer, but hardly worth a fest in its own right.

500ml bottle into weizen glass. Distant sour nose, a touch of skunk. Clear amber beer with solid white head. Flat mouthfeel with grain to the fore. Finish is even more grain and a little bitterness. Some pepper lingers late on. Nice beer, easy drinking.

50CL bottle at home, light yellow/golden beer with a small head, aroma is malts, taste is sweet, malty, hint of bitterness, a bit too sweet for me, but not bad.

500 ml capped bottle. Poured in the original Spaten Oktoberfestbier glass, anno 1998, a crystal clear and golden-yellow colored Festbier with a two fingers creamy, dense, fine and almost white foamy head that had a very long retention and tons of micro bubbles. Active carbonation. Good lacing. The aroma is sweety malts, grassy hops, hay and a not expected barnyard. The flavour is sweety grainy malts, bready, biscuits, a touch of caramel and grassy hops. The mouthfeel is light crispy, creamy, sweety and quite thin. The texture is oily. This medium bodied Festbier has a dry light bitter finish. A not very exiting Festbier. The bottle-tasting at home is surely more strict than, on tap, under a huge tent in a great german city, but also more fair.

Clear yellow with white foam head. Aroma is normal for a german beer. Creamy taste, little bitter, a good German beer. Good aftertaste. (Walldorf 201310)

Pours clear dark amber with a soapy, biege head that dissipates slowly. Very little lacing is left on the glass. There are smells of roasted malts. It's a pretty clean smell. The taste is bready with some sweetness. It has a cracker like flavor. There isn't much flavor from the hops, but they are there on the back end. There's a mild astringent aftertaste. The body is light and there isn't a lot of carbonation. The finish is crisp and dry. The drinkability is good. Overall, this is an average beer. I wasn't a big fan of this one, but like many German beers, I'm sure I would have a better opinion of it if I drank it in Germany.

This is a beautiful dark gold pour that leaves the mouth watering. A huge white cap awaits. Cereal and weak floral hops permeate the air, while the flavour is slightly sweet with fruitish hints.

On tap @ Bearden Beer Mrkt's Okotberfest celebration: Pours a medium amber yellow color with a tight white head and decent lacing. Aromas of Noble hops, earthy and lightly floral, very slightly sweetened malts. Taste is malty sweetness balanced with Noble hops with a slight bitter finish. Decent O'Fest.

Bottle something like 9 months old (hint...drink your Marzen's fresh!). Another one on clearance for 50% off. Wanted to get the jist of this beer for the upcoming fall season, but don't think I'll be getting any of this vs. Sammy's, Beck's, etc. Ok and refreshing, a little light on the caramel malt though. Balance also seemed off a bit, but could have been cause of the age. May give it another chance, but really like the regular Spaten or Optimator over this.

Nice Oktoberfest, if a bit bitter. Pours rich, deep amber with a medium head. Slightly sweet with a nod to the malt. Crisp and drinkable - even in the mid-high 90-degree and humid south Alabama weather this time of year.

A great Oktoberfest but where is the Marzen??? The appearnace and mouthfeel is spot on but the flavor lacks the flavor that I associate with a great Oktoberfest. This is a great starter for the season, but it is really lacking in taste. Add some marzen and grain and this would be fantastic.
