Our spring seasonal, is inspired by the ancient Japanese tradition of hanami- cherry blossom viewing - when people throughout Japan gather in parks to contemplate the luminous, ethereal sakura blossoms, while consuming copious amounts of food and beer in a joyous, nationwide picnic. Made with a generous amount of natural cherry juice, Hanami Ale is crisp and refreshing, a well-balanced, medium-bodied ale offering subtle, tart cherry flavors - the perfect way to bid farewell to winter's icy grip and toast the arrival of spring with your own hanami celebration.

Pours a nice coppery brown with a fairly thick if not persistent head. Aroma is malty, yeasty, slightly fruity and a bit sweet, typical for an ale. Flavor is quite fruity, rather like a cider, a little fruity-sweet with a firm tone of cherry and some malt. Texture is quite smooth and a little fizzy, leaving a sour cherry finish.

The aroma is very pleasant and nice and of mostly black cherries with some light malt present as well as is fruity-like. The appearance is a glowing red that is very cloudy when held to the light with a rather small head on top that is a light pink in color and leaves very nice lacing on the glass. The mouthfeel is smooth and light to medium in body and coats very nicely with good malty balance and more complex then I initially thought. The flavor is sweet but not overwhelming and is candy-like with good malt character with a finish that is fruity, maybe even "winey", with a dry and round aftertaste. Overall, good carbonation and has seltzer-like characteristics and really is not that bad.

This beer poured a slightly cloudy reddish color with very little head. It had a mild aroma with a tart cherry flavor. There wasnt much else going on with it. It was a very basic fruit beer.

Ok, looks like I am the rebel here. This was one of the worst beers I have ever tasted....I couldn't even finish the glass that I had. There was a somewhat nice, faint cherry aroma and the cloudy dark tan coloring was nice. However, the taste really put me off.

Hazy reddish amber brew with a faint cap. Fruity sweet and earthy aroma, whiff of lemon. The flavor has a lemony tartness rather than cherry tartness, in my opinion. Drier than I expected, it has a pleasant bitterness and is nicely balanced.

Poured a ruby amber with slightly off white head. The aroma was of subtle fruit with a touch of grain. The strongest flavor was tart fruit. I must admit this one had to grow on me a bit.

Pours a clear reddish brown colour. Small head. it holds down a taste that comes across a little sour, hint of cherry juice, but its more syrupy-caramel tasting then anything else. Aroma is oddball, spice, sugar and grass.

Beer pours the color of raspberry iced-tea with a head with tinges of pink color to it. Aroma is of musty-sour fruit. The flavor is tart cherry, but not overpowering, with a sour puckering finish and some hints of mustiness. I can understand a brewer wanting to do something "different" for a change, and this fits the bill for the beer drinker. Pretty good fruit beer.

This was an interesting beer. I can't really rip it despite wanting to. I expected more of a Cherry Wheat taste, but it was very obvious that Smuttynose loaded up on the cherry juice. A bit too much for me, and I've had several people agreed (people who like SA Cherry Wheat). It poured a ruby red color and was sweet and tart with a overbearing Cherry taste.

It's hard to see why this gets killed, a fruit lambic will pucker the mouth way worse and taste way more "sour" than this thing (why is that such a good thing?). A traditional fruit beer can come off more fruity and syrupy and still get better ratings. Rant off, rating on: Pours a ruby reddish color with amber hues, nice thing head, solid lacing, though, reminded me of a flemish sour in appearance. The aroma was tart, sour cherries with a wheatiness that was unmistakable in the aroma. Flavor started out with the very first sip reminding me of SA's Cherry Wheat, but the aftertaste was sure to keep me from thinking that for long: tart cherries and light tart apples, barley and wheat bitterness rounding out a fullness for a fruit beer, yet finishing twangy hoppy with a bite, accentuating the wheat grain (ok, if this doesn't have wheat in it, fine, but I still find it wheaty or rye like in bite). Mouthfeel was moderate to light, acidic in quality. An ok fruit wheat beer in my book, creative, not sweet, nice sour bitter fruity play here in terms of creativity.
