Flavor and aroma on this are so intense I didn't want to drink this too fast. Lots of vanilla and cherry, along with the mellow oak, good lord this is a wonderful beer. Thanks to pfoxyjohn for holding on to this since 2010!

Big surprise sent from pfoxyjohn and shared with a good friend of mine. It's no secret New Glarus puts out some amazing products, and this just be their finest effort that I've sampled so far. With all the influences and flavors talking to each other this beer is simply close to perfection. Amazingly impressive, bold and even every day drinkable all rolled together.

pours brick red. smells of vanilla, sour cherries, oak and malt. nice and complex. tart on the tongue. more oaky than bourbon til it’s pretty warm with the funky sour cherries always present. cool, cool beer!

Another fine effort from my favorite local brewery; no one does "fruit beers" better, although that classification is as adumbrative as calling Van Gogh's Starry Night a 'picture' or Beethoven's Ode to Joy a 'tune'. A vigorous pour from the 500ml bottle produces an initially dense and bubbly off-white head that rapidly breaks down leaving a thin film and faint lace. The body is a beautiful, well carbonated, bright flaming reddish amber. Aromas of mascerated cherries, oak and vanilla, with soft hints of bourbon. Palate is clean, light and lively with tart lactic sourness and an intriguing funkiness. Flavors of brilliant vinegary cherries and more wood than whiskey, the latter coming through in the long dry finish with a warmth belying its 5.5% abv. Richness, Depth of Flavor, Intensity, Balance, Harmony, Finesse, Beauty. A fine ending to the Second Annual PfoxyJohn's Bar(n) Ride. MUSIC: 'So Much Beauty in Dirt' - Modest Mouse. "Get real drunk and ride our bikes / There's so much beauty it could make you cry."

A rare one from pfoxyjohn: Beautiful clear deep copper pour with minimal head dissipating to a white ring with sporadic lacing. Intense aromas of bourbon, cherries, vanilla and oak and ever-so-slight vinegar. Tart cherry bourbon flavor with a nice sourness and bite. This beer drinks much bigger than a 5.5% abv offering - it is exquisite. Many thanks to pfoxyjohn for another Epic New Glarus creation... I like cherries.
