Definitely worth the risk of drinking a chocolate beer. Mildy aromatic, and with a flavor that would have Willy Wonka going to AA meetings. Not an everyday beer, but one that could be busted at out an ANY holiday or get-together.

Pours a light amber color with a small amount of carbonation bubbles, pours with medium sized creamy off white head that lingers nicely and leaves a lot of lacing. The aroma is sweet chocolate malts and not much else. The taste was like powdered chocolate milk mix (Quick) or the chocolate protein shakes. The mouthfeel was pretty intense carbonation tingle, thin, leaves kind of an odd powdery like feeling on the palate.

It has a dark murky brown color with dark red highlights. The head is tan in color, foamy and leaves nice lace on the glass. There is a dark malty aroma with a heavy toasted flavor. There are some chocolate notes as well as some mildly bitter hops within a creamy smooth medium bodied palate. This is a very good offering from the Saranac family of beers.

Bottle from beastiefan2k. Pour was deep dark brown, thin initial head, tannish color, pretty steady retention, weak lacing. The aroma was chocolate with a little roast. The flavor was sweet chocolate, light roast, slight bitter finish, but not dry enough for a "dunkel" and the chocolate was annoyingly sweet. Came across as a bad brewer’s cover up for a dunkel that didn’t go right in the first place. Not much lager-like about this one, although it was drinkable. Thanks for the bonus brew, Eugene, they’re all fun the first time!

Pours a very dark brown almost black body with a big tan head that is two fingers thick. Smells malty and sweet, with burnt, bittersweet chocolate and a very light hopp aroma. Tastes like chocolates, roasted caramel, a little on the light side, some what creamy.

Pours nearly opaque black with a tinge of red. Beige head. Aroma is boozy! Flavor is not what you'd expect from a lager. The chocolate influence doesn't seem to be there but if you imagine you're simply drinking a porter then this beer is delicous with it's roasted malty character. Nice bitter finish.

This is one of the best tasting beers I've ever had the pleasure of trying. I'm from upstate NY originally, and the Utica area sucks, but the Saranac Brewery is one thing to be proud of since they create some of the best flavored brews around, and aren't ridiculously overpriced. The Chocolate Amber you can taste that cocoa zing in the aftertaste... its too bad this isn't a regular one that Saranac brews, its only a special seasonal one (as I've never seen it except in a sampler pack). They should start making this one as a regular because its just that good!

a hearty dark lager with a backbone of dry chocolate flavor. some subtle sweetness too. i like the filling and smooth mouthfeel...... color is a dark amber with a typical lager head. Aroma is a toasty toffee and earthy like dirt. Taste got a little cheapish towards the end but not bad, i'd buy this if it where sold alone

Saranac Chocolate Amber was probably 2nd best saranac in the sampler. I was a little baffled by the name amber. It poured a medium brown colored body...more dunkel like. The aroma was of chocolate. The taste was sweet, chocolaty...not bad. Not comparable to say Rogue Chocolate Stout but not bad especially for Saranac.

Part of a holiday 12 pack. I was really surprised by this one. More body than the usual Saranac flavors (which are all good). Very dark color with a nice dense head. Hard to describe the taste. All I know is the glass emptied quickly.
