Samuel Adams Revolutionary Rye Ale is the winner of our 2010 Beer Lover’s Choice® campaign. This deep reddish-hued ale has a nice balance of sweet and spicy flavors. The slight roastiness and sweetness from the malt blend is complemented by pine and citrus notes from the combination of German and American hops. The defining ingredient in this ale, malted Rye, imparts additional complexity by delivering a spicy and slightly drying finish to this medium-bodied brew.

Aroma:A light hoppy nose with some sweetness and rye

Appearance:Pours a great copper with a good white head that did last!

Mouthfeel: Medium body with a crisp carbonation and smooth finish

Flavor:Flavor was balanced sweetness with a non abrasive rye on the back. a bit bready a times but I like that.

Overall:I really liked this beer. I thought it was a fantastic session beer!

Dont tread on me Ale should be the name of this offering from SA. It was awesome. It open with true notes of rye, citrus and spice. It was a goldenish color and had a nice head. Once this hits your mouth, it explodes into a frenzy o' flavor. I think that more beers need to be brew with the attitude of looking to the past to blow the doors off the future.

Sampled on 5/12/2011. This rye beer pours a medium copper color from a 12oz bottle. Medium to large sized beige foamy head, with nice lacing and good retention. The aroma is grapefruity, spicy, cereal and grassy. A medium bodied rye beer. The malts are grassy and grainy, caramel and fruity. The hops are earthy and spicy. Nice carbonation. You can really taste the rye in this one. Clean and crisp. Light and refreshing, with a nice crisp dry finish. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Glad that I sampled this in 4-pack sample flight before wasting money on the exclusive variety pack.. Wanted to try a couple of the new Sammy's offered in the spring or summer variety pack, but was not that thrilled about this. Just not that big on rye beers in general, but this seemed off balance to me. Pretty much average across the board. I have been getting into Samuel Adams lately as one of my top choices for economy beer, but this one is a miss.

commercially bottled version od the previously reviewed american rye ale: "this red ale was a pleasant enough beer, but not the one i voted for. that was due in part to the belgian ipa being very good, and the fact that the rye and hop presence in this beer was too subtle for my taste. lots of tasty malt, but a fairly one dimensional beer. better than quite a few sam adams mass produced beers, though."

Had on tap @ the Houston Flying Saucer, my warm up beer for the day .. . Pours a medium gold, great head and sticky lacing .. . simple whiffs of grain, light rye, and christmas tree resin .. . goes down smooth, light crispness .. . a rather nice offering from Mr Adams .. . it's just a theory...

I had this on tap at Rusch's in Hamilton. Poured a reddish amber with medium head and a ton of lacing. What stuck out about this one was the balance of the sweet with the spiciness of the rye. It took me a bit to ID the rye. Very nice offering . Good paired with fish and chips

    12oz bottle -

The best thing that I can say about this beer, is that it's new. Nice to find a sampler pack with a new beer. Far from Sam Adams greatest beer, but drinkable just the same. Appearance is beautiful with a stunning copper colored body, 2" light tan head with nice retention. Aroma is really, really light in nature. Some pine, light tobacco, touch of brewed tea. Flavor has some light tannic pucker power, tea, piney hop and a hint of bread. Mouthfeel is smooth and medium bodied. Decenet beer from SA but nothing to rave about.
